While Pixlr might not offer you as much control as some other options and isn’t as user-friendly, it’s still a good alternative to explore.

Google bought Picnik in order to incorporate its editing tools and interface into their own products. They've done this now (check PicasaWeb and Google+ to see some of the very same Picnik-like editing tools already incorporated).Because this was Google's intention and practice, I doubt they would have been interested in selling it. Fortunately, there are many, many less expensive photo-editing apps. Quite a few of them are free and do quite a bit: PhotoFiltre (free), Photoscape (free), Gimp (free), just to name a few. Hi Brenda, I read here that you used to work on picnik and I am wondering if I use one of the "premium" frames to edit a picturebefore the 19th of April, is it free to use? I went on picnik afterI uploaded a picture and then "create" then "frames" I saw a reallycool reflective frame and it was a "premium" . It did look cool with my artwork but when I hit save it redirected me to a sign up page thatwanted me to pay for Premium. How can that be when picnik is closing in a few days? I am very, very disappointed with Aviary. There doesn't appear to be a facility to straighten pictures and for my needs, this is essential.
