Alex.History[]Background[]Florian was born c. 1978, in the same village where both Niko Bellic and Roman Bellic grew up. During his adolescence, he fought in the Yugoslav Wars with Niko Bellic as part of the fifteen man squad, was a childhood friend of Roman Bellic, and unknown to anybody but himself, was deeply in the closet as a homosexual despite telling people he wanted to be a wrestler and a shepherd. He once worked in an abattoir; which he is ashamed of. Thus he behaved much less feminine than he did in later years, including having a more masculine voice (which is heard in Weekend at Florian's, when he becomes very angry). In his last days of the war as a teenager, he joined Niko, Darko Brevic, and twelve other soldiers on a mission into enemy territory. Darko had secretly sold information to their enemies, and all twelve were killed with the exception of Niko, Darko and Florian. As early as 2001, Florian moved to Liberty City, where he changed his name to "Bernie Crane" (shunning "Florian Cravic" as if it were a split personality) and felt comfortable being an openly gay man. At a foam party at the famous gay-club Hercules (opened in 1998 by "Gay" Tony Prince), he met Deputy Mayor Bryce Dawkins, who he started dating afterwards. In 2003 and 2004, he was arrested for soliciting sex and holding ecstasy. He may have been dating Dawkins at this time, as Dawkins ordered the LCPD not to harass Bernie in any way.Events of Grand Theft Auto IV[]In 2008, Niko Bellic travelled to the United States to track down Cravic. After working for many crime syndicates, mobster Ray Boccino pointed Bellic in the direction of Talbot Daniels, an associate of Cravic's. With Roman's help, Niko forced Talbot to direct him to Cravic's residence. When they arrived, Niko and Roman broke into his apartment and held Cravic at gunpoint. Cravic insisted that he was innocent, initially believing Niko had sold the unit out. Niko is convinced by Cravic's innocence, and vows to track down Darko Brevic.Crane later asks Niko to help him, as he is constantly being harassed about his sexuality by everyone from a homophobe to Bryce's many blackmailers (Dimitri Rascalov, a major Russian mobster and coincidentally an archenemy of Niko's, and to a lesser extent Thomas Stubbs III, another politician who successfully bugged Dawkins' Infernus without them knowing). Niko eliminates all of these problems, and Bernie eventually gives him the Infernus, both of themComments

2025-03-25Unbeknownst that it was bugged. Crane appears for the final time at Roman's wedding (he appears at the wedding regardless of which ending the player chooses), throwing confetti over Roman and Mallorie. He later screams in fear when either Kate McReary or Roman Bellic are killed during the shootout (depending on the ending the player chooses). In the "Deal" ending, he comforts Mallorie when she sobs over Roman's dead body.Character[]Personality[]Bernie is by-and-large portrayed as a stock gay man and displays many associated traits: unnaturally high-pitched voice, camp and theatrical mannerisms, proneness to anxiety episodes and cowardice, fixation on physical health and appearance, flirting with other males, etc. He has a tendency to use the term "sweetie" when referring to Niko or other males, and often implies he has a crush on Niko. Based on the response he gives when reminded of his previous work in an abattoir, he may either have a fondness for animals, a distaste for blood and gore, or both. Bernie is also suggested to be manipulative, attempting to pry Bryce Dawkins out of his marriage and using the excuse of a panic attack to lure Niko into a "fun" boating day, something which visibly agitates Niko. Unlike Niko, Bernie seems to have mostly gotten over his combat-riddled past, regularly displaying a chipper attitude and encouraging Niko to do the same after Darko Brevic is killed. Alternately, if Darko is spared, Bernie tells Niko that he is proud of him and suggests a celebratory spa day. However, it seems that Bernie had coped with his past by adopting a sort of split personality – this is evidenced by the fact that Bernie has practically disowned his Serbian name, and he does not appear to like being reminded of his past. Most notably, he becomes briefly enraged at the mere mention of Darko's name in his first encounter, suggesting he does have trauma from his days in the war that he is suppressing through his new identity.Bernie's high-pitched voice is put-on, and his actual voice is much deeper and more gruff than Niko's. It can only be heard in two instances in Weekend at Florian's, when he tells Niko he would never betray the unit, and his furious response to being questioned on Darko's fate. Unlike Roman, Bernie seems to remember his native language well in spite of his time in America, given how he randomly alternates between speaking Serbian and English.Appearance[]Bernie is a 30-year old Caucasian male. He has blond hair, brown eyes, and a scar on his left eyebrow, similar to Niko's. He has two outfits. His main outfit consists of a black peacoat over a red-and-pink striped shirt, with black jeans and white sneakers, and optionally, a pink scarf, flat cap, and sunglasses. He also has a jogging outfit, consisting of a lilac and plum tracksuit with the number "68" on it, with a yellow undershirt and a white headband with red and blue stripes. At Roman's wedding, Bernie will wear a black suit jacket,
