#1 I edited some images in Capture NX2 and converted them to TIFF files, because, as a previous post of mine ( explained, I was not satisfied with the conversion to JPEG when a small file size is needed.I then used Graphic Converter to convert the TIFFs to JPEG and was satisfied with the results as GC allows you to omit the EXIF etc. and thus get down to a small file size with decent image quality. However, it created 2 JPEGS for each TIFF, one quite a bit smaller than the other. If I view each TIFF file with Preview (on a Mac), it also shows two images for each file - I guess one is an embedded thumbnail in the TIFF file.Is there a way to convert to TIFF within NX2 without including the thumbnail?Thanks.Barry Last edited by a moderator: Mar 15, 2017 #2 No, I don't think so. But Nikon ViewNX2 does not insert the thumbnail.The thumbnail is tiny and could be useful, I don't see why it is a problem.However I have a solution which means you won't need to use GC to make your smaller JPGs. Use Nikon View NX2 after using Capture NX2 (if you need more advanced editing - you might find View NX2 does all you need).If you really want to not have the thumbnail, simply edit all your photos in Capture NX2, then run View NX2 and use the Convert option to export them all as TIFFs, and it will do exactly what you want, no thumbnail.View NX2 Convert Files also allows you to export as JPG in any size you want, so you can do it all in one step. No such thing as an "incompatible" version of PS for receiving TIFF files from NX2. Edit>Preferences>General and point it at the EXE for the version of PS that you have.You are thinking that because ACR does not support your camera you can't send a TIFF there? Am able to strip all that away and get very nice images even at 50 KB file size. Same for Photoshop's "Save for Web" option. Copyright information is not important in this case.It's just funny how some things that should be relatively easy to do can get unnecessarily complicated - Capture NX2 doesn't allow you to save a JPEG without the EXIF data, so I saved TIFF files to convert to JPEG elsewhere. But then I discover that the TIFF file really has two images in it.Barry #13 I ran across this: sure it still applies. But could explain why you are getting 2 "preview" images. Tom,Okay, thanks. Graphics Converter also allows removal of the "resource fork." I saw that option and used it when saving to JPEG but didn't know what it meant. But Capture NX2 doesn't offer this choice.Barry #14 I have run into similar problems, but not exactly the same. Saving a file out of NX2 as a TIFF, or sending the TIFF to GIMP it creates two layers when it opens up. One layer contains the full image, the second layer is a thumbnail. Then, when I save the TIFF in GIMP, I can't reopen it in NX2, so I need to be sure that I am not going back to NX2 after processing out the TIFF. #15 Jan,A TIFF is a TIFF no matter where it comes from.The reason it won't open in NX2 is probably because it has layers or is Grayscale etc.The same thing applies to Photoshop.If you take care when saving the TIFF from Gimp will open in NX2. To Capture NX-D and View NX-I?I have not used NX2 (at least, not the Capture but probably used the View briefly) but people who tried to switch to Capture NX-D swear that their experience has gone worse! I believe NX2 was a paid s/w while NX-D is a free version.I use the View NX-i to view the photos and delete what is not needed. It is significantly faster than Capture. I also use the keyboard a lot and the UI is much simpler/easier with View. I did not see any issues going from View NX2 to NX-i.Capture NX-D is a good editor. The UI requires lot of mouse use (for my taste) but so does any editor. What I like about it is that it recognizes the Nikon camera settings when showing the NEF files, or when exporting to JPEGs. The edits required will be minimal over the camera settings. Of course, I can reset and start over.
