Unable to install imovie

No audio appears to be playing on iMovie. I am unable to hear any sound from video clips that I've added, any music tracks I've added to clips, or even the sounds/music itself in the music/sound effect section. Strangely enough, when I roll over those clips that are supposed to have audio, I can see the volume levels changing, yet I still hear nothing. When I export the project, the audio plays fine on Quickplayer, but I just can't hear it on iMovie. This is incredibly frustrating as I cannot even hear what I am adding to my project. I have never had this happen before. The volume on my computer works fine so that's not the issue. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? #1 I see that when I upgraded to Mavericks last year, I got the recent 'iMovie' app. And then after the update OSX left a folder called iMovie 9.0.9 in my hard drive. So I take it this is the older legacy version of iMovie. Since I had never used that version, could I just safely delete the folder and Trash it? The iMovie 9.0.9 does not appear in my Launchpad, only the newer 'iMovie' appears there. I recently downloaded the newest version of iMovie after my computer was reset a few months ago, but prefer the older version of iMovie and would like to revert to that one.I have already gone to download iMovie from this link, but upon trying to install it I get the message that I need a version of iMovie that is older than 9.0. I tried to download iMovie 8.0.6, and I got the message that 8.0.6 is a part of a package I can't install.
