You just adjust the output accordingly. Most FET compressors feature the infamous “All” button above the lower ratio amounts. This results in an overdriven, almost saturation like effect on audio with a slower attack to let some transients through. This setting sounds great when used as parallel compression on a drum bus.Best FET CompressorI like varying it up between two options for my opinion on the best FET compressor plugin:Arturia Comp FET-76 – This FET compressor (shown above) is modeled after the 1176 and has all of the relevant settings along with an attractive interface.Waves CLA-76 – This is Waves’ FET compressor which is also modeled after the famed UA 1176. It was built with input from famed producer Chris Lord-Alge and as such has a number of his presets and other well known producers’ presets to help you dial in the sound you want fast. Best Free FET CompressorAnalog Osession – FETISH – FETISH may be designed to look a bit different than Arturia or Waves’ 1176 modeled compressors, but everything you need is contained in this one FREE plugin.Optical CompressorsWhat is an Optical CompressorI’ll begin with optical compressors, also known as “opto compressors” for short. The term optical comes from the fact that this compressor literally generates light based on the input level of the signal. It uses the intensity of this light to determine how much to compress the signal.More input signal means a brighter light which means more compression. Optical compressors typically feature the most straightforward interfaces

Two reverbs, two compressors, a Moog emulation, and a mastering channel strip. These plugins vary in price from 20 GBP ($35 USD) to as low as 1.49 GBP ($2.31 USD). They also have four free plugins available for download with a donation box set up with Paypal. As you may have realized by now, this is a British company, so you have to probably have paypal to even think about buying their products. I doubt there is any other way, actually. Other than the SSi Compressor, my favorite plugin by far is the "PUNCH" compressor."PUNCH" From Minimal SystemIf you don't feel like spending the money to get an 1176...or even the Waves 1176...or the UAD 1176 plug...why don't you open up your wallet to this plugin. It costs a whopping 5GBP, or about $8.00. Yeah, that's right. An $8.00 plugin. This thing sounds FANTASTIC. It works great, looks great, works just like the 1176. I compared a track I recorded with a real hardware 1176 next to this, and they sounded VERY similar. The main difference was that the old 1176 was a bit warmer (less highs), but understandable seeing as they were designed way back when and the circuitry was not meant for digital audio's high bandwidth. Punch can sound like an 1176, making drums punchy and fat, with lots of attack. You can crush the living daylights out of a room mic, or smooth out a dynamic vocal performance. It's actually unbelievable how good this plugin sounds for. 1176 Limiter; Free 1176 Compressor Plugin Generator; Free 1176 Compressor Plugins; Free 1176 Vst; Free Distressor Vst; TS Overdrive Pedal Plug-In; UA 175B Tube Compressor Plug-In; UA 176 Tube Compressor Plug-In; UA 1176LN Legacy Speaker Plug-in; UA 1176SE plug-in for old limit amplifier; UA 1176 Rev A Classic Limiter Plug-In; UA 1176AE Classic Limiter Plug-In; UA I compare the UAD UA 1176SE Legacy, UA 1176LN Legacy, UA 1176 Rev A, UA 1176 Rev E, UA 1176 Rev AE, the Softube FET Compressor and the Steinberg Vintage Comp

Used for vocals but I'm looking for something else good for vocals. Purple Audio's MC77 or the UA 1176 gets mentioned a lot. Any slutz out there with both care to compare??Also...what's the difference between the Purple and the UA aside from price? Got 'em all, dig each one, and they all sound different. Purple (MC76) is roadworthy (tranny mounted to chassis instead of the board) and the LEDs don't burn out. It sounds a bit more "urgent" than the UA reissue--whatever that means--so I typically patch the higher priority tracks to purple before black. YMMV.On the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try an LA-3A on vocals. Gear Addict Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 393 🎧 20 years Thanks everyone. You're making the Dragon sound too tempting! Lives for gear Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 1,703 🎧 20 years For the last 6 months I've had an MC77, Reissue 1176LN and a vintage Silver Urei 1176LN sitting beside me.After MUCH comparison (none of it scientific - just matching gain reduction and compressor action by ear), I find the MC77 to be the most useful in a variety of situations. Compared to the silver 1176 it seems cleaner and passes a more full bandwidth signal. The Silver unit sounds a little lighter in the bass dept and imparts a distinctive "sizzle" on everything that passes through it, which can be great on many sources. I was able to match (to my ears) almost perfectly the UA reissue to the UAD plugin. Seriously. I couldn't even come close when trying the same thing with the purple or urei. The reissue hasn't been powered up in months...If I were to keep just one, it would be no contest. The Purple wins in my world. I am constantly amazed at the staggering amount of gain reduction I can get away with on electric bass. It almost feels like cheating... MC77 in most cases pleases my taste more

What makes the UA 1176 compressor so

Be a good thing. if you don't, proceed with caution.the ua is also its own beast. i didn't want to like the re-issues, but i have to admit they're great compressors. they're more liquid sounding than either of the above, with a squishier grab and fuller bottom. more transparent than i expected too, but ime the most cherry 1176's, the ones that have been faithfully and religiously maintained since birth, are very smooth, transparent beasts, not at all the distortion boxes they're reputed to be. I have to agree with this. I got a purple and found it compared to a 1176 I rented brighter, and little more harsh , not as full or warm. Still sounded good. But I think the Dragon which I tested also got closer to the 1176. I am curious about the RI now. Registered User Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 473 🎧 15 years I bought the 1176 re-issue. Sent it right back and bought a MC77 and now very happy. The MC77 does sound brighter to me. But it also sounds smoother perhaps too. The overall tone/color of the unit just sounded right to me. I use on every mix. Wish I had a few more. The Bomb Factory plugin emulation sounds like shit. Nothing farther from the truth. To be honest, I actually liked the UA 1176 plugin "better" than the actual unit. I use that as well on every mix.
