A big warmup will bring near-record warmth to Indiana on Monday. That will come at a price. A strong cold front will bring storms Tuesday into Wednesday. INDIANA, USA — February warmth comes at a price in Indiana. It's so nice to thaw out, but the atmosphere usually will throw a cold front at us quickly after a few nice days. Quick weather rundown this week: MONDAY: Near-record warmth across IndianaTUESDAY: More clouds, scattered rain, evening strong storms and overnight storm chancesWEDNESDAY: Morning storms, dropping temperatures, limited snow chances Tap HERE for our interactive radar to track the storm system as it moves in from the west. How quickly is this cold front coming into Indiana? Not only do we track temperatures on the ground, but also higher up. There is a big push of colder air at all levels of the atmosphere heading toward Indiana. This is helping drive a powerful cold front south and east from Canada and into the Great Lakes. The leading edge of the cold air arrives Wednesday morning. Before then, expect the storms while the final hours of the warm air linger Tuesday night. The darker colors on the jet stream map show the coldest air. Indiana will get a better mix of cold air aloft, plus warm air on the ground to help create instability to spark severe storms. Timing will be adjusted as we get closer to the storm event, but generally, expect the cold front will start approaching the Illinois-Indiana state line after sunset on Tuesday. As that happens, severe storms are likely to spark near the state line and march east into the night and early Wednesday morning. We continue to monitor potential for severe weather, primarily Tuesday afternoon and night. While confidence is increasing in this potential, uncertainty remains. Please monitor forecast updates and review your preparedness plans. #INwx pic.twitter.com/nlFHWRZmcq— NWS Indianapolis (@NWSIndianapolis) February 25, 2024 How bad will the storms be? The main threats will be wind and hail as these storms push east. There will be some rotation in these cells, so a tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Timing will be a big factor in this storm: Faster timing — storms earlier Tuesday evening This may bring stronger storms as daytime heating helps bolster stronger storm development.Slower timing — storms later into Wednesday morningThis may give the storms a chance to slowly weaken as theyStorm Getting Started Installing Storm - storm-lang.org
Long-track, EF3 or stronger tornadoes.Severe Storm Timing - Multiple Rounds Expected(WALA)TIMING & STORM EVOLUTIONFRIDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY SATURDAY MORNING: SCATTERED STRONG STORMS POSSIBLETimeframe: 11:00 p.m. Friday - 7:00 a.m. Saturday.Threats: Hail, damaging winds, & isolated tornadoes.Uncertainty: Some models show little to no early storm activity, while others suggest scattered storms. As an upper-level disturbance moves closer, rain chances increase late Friday night. Some models suggest isolated storms developing after 11:00 p.m., mainly along the I-10 corridor, and lifting northward into inland counties like Greene, Washington, Clarke, Monroe, and Conecuh. While this initial round may not be widespread, any storms that form could become strong, producing hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.Friday Night Severe Threat(WALA)Confidence remains uncertain on how widespread these early storms will be. Some models suggest minimal activity, while others indicate scattered storms overnight. This round should end by 7:00 a.m. Saturday.SATURDAY MORNING: WARM, WINDY, AND HUMIDNo storms expected between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.Winds: Strong southerly winds 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.Conditions: Very warm & humid.Saturday morning will be quiet but unsettled. Expect partly cloudy skies, strong southerly winds at 15-25 mph (gusting up to 40 mph), and humid conditions with quickly rising temperatures. No storms are expected during this time, but the atmosphere will be primed for storm development later in the day.SATURDAY AFTERNOON & EVENING: THE MAIN SEVERE WEATHER EVENTTimeframe: 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m.Threats: Supercells capable of tornadoes (some strong), damaging winds, and large hail.Storms will track southwest to northeast.Key Message: These storms will be discrete, meaning not everyone will see rain all day. However, individual storms will be intense where they form.By midday Saturday, storms will begin developing to our west and move into our area through the afternoon and evening hours. These storms will be discrete supercells, meaning they will form individually, rather than as a widespread mass of rain. The main severe weather window will be from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Supercell thunderstorms will move from southwest to northeast and will be capable of producing destructive winds, very large hail (possibly 2+ inches), and strong tornadoes (EF-2 or greater). It’s importantClassic - Storms captured by Storm Predator By Storm Predator
Options for various chances, volatility, sunset times, etc. In previous versions this ended up yielding 20+ plugins to account for every combination, which made updating this mod frequently basically impossible. There is now simply the core True Storms chances, with vanilla volatility, which in my opinion is now quite balanced, and an option for earlier sunset. The very best way going forward is to give YOU the power to easily change any of this yourself in second! I'm making a concise tutorial on how to edit the different aspects of True Storms to get it how you want it using xEdit, stay tuned! Please be patient! For now True Storms v1.4 must be run on its own unless the mod has a patch for v1.4, or you risk unintended behavior and potential issues. There are always these kinds of bumps when doing a major update. Not compatible with other weather mods (i.e. Vivid Weathers) unless a patch is made, which I am hoping to work on. 2025-04-07Temperatures skyrocketed to near 90 this afternoon along with higher humidity. Dew points are climbing well into the 60s. We're watching a cluster of storms moving into western Wisconsin. As they move east, the storms lose much of their forcing mechanisms and should weaken or even fizzle out completely before reaching us. If any rain holds together, it should make it here by around 8pm. This will be the first of a few storm chances over the next 24 hours. The next round of storms is possible early tomorrow morning, then maybe our best chance for storms develops around midday tomorrow.
