Due to which I have downloaded the VMDK file from the data store and it downloads as .zip (DCHQ.VMDK.ZIP). I am using the starwinds converter for conversion but it doesnt sees the file as its .zip. Can I change VMDK.ZIP to vmdk and convert ? I am afraid it will be corrupted and it will take time to copy again to another place. In touch with virtualization world, may know stuff you are interested in. IntroductionMigrating your VMs from one hypervisor to another may be a bit of a challenge if you don’t have some decent virtual machine converter at hand. Different hypervisors have their own proprietary VM formats: VMDK, VHD and VHDX, QCOW, you name it. The problem is that one VM format can be not supported on other platforms. In this case, a V2V converter is a must-have. Now, the question arises: which converter should I choose?VSAN from StarWind is software-defined storage (SDS) solution created with restricted budgets and maximum output in mind. It pulls close to 100% of IOPS from existing hardware, ensures high uptime and fault tolerance starting with just two nodes. StarWind VSAN is hypervisor and hardware agnostic, allowing you to forget about hardware restrictions and crazy expensive physical shared storage.Build your infrastructure with off-the-shelf hardware, scale however you like, increase return on investment (ROI) and enjoy Enterprise-grade virtualization features and benefits at SMB price today!Explore VSAN from StarWindStarWind VSAN White Paper-->How to choose?Deciding on a proper V2V converter depends mainly on its functionality. The number one factor for me is the number of supported VM formats. There are tools that allow migrating only from VMDK to VHD/VHDX, or vice versa, or even from any VM format to any other. For example, VMware vCenter Converter Standalone allows converting any VM format to VMDK.The second key-point you should really consider is the conversion way. It can be two-way conversion (VMDK to VHD and the other way around) or one-way (only from VMDK to VHD). If you have an environment with two hypervisors running, it would be a good solution to find a converter that supports both ways instead of installing several tools. For example, StarWind V2V Converter allows bi-directional conversion between various hypervisors. And the final factor is the ability to change VM parameters during its conversion. It’s really useful option since it allows avoiding any incompatibility issues when migrating your VMs from one hypervisor to another. This feature is supported in 5nine V2V Easy Converter and VMware vCenter Converter Standalone.I don’t take price into account since there are plenty of free solutions on the market. So, it’s no problem finding a good and feature-rich tool without paying a dime. All three tools I’ve mentioned above are free.I won’t go into much details in this article and compare different V2V converters since there is a great article on VMblog already. It’s called “V2V converters review” and it will give you the detailed info on different tools, including StarWindStarWind V2V Converter The Cutting-Edge Upgrade: StarWind V2V Converter
Software Description: StarWind Virtual CD - Virtual CD extends your infrastructure by adding a virtual DVD-ROM drive locally Virtual CD from StarWind Software, Inc. allows you to create a virtual DVD-ROM drive locally to extend your computing infrastructure. A Virtual DVD-ROM emulation allows you to use virtual optical drives when and where you need them. Virtual CD from StarWind creates images of your optical media, so you can use them at any time without having the physical medium on hand. No matter whether your disk has been scratched, lost or stolen - you still have the maximum availability of your data. Moreover, right now, you can add CD functionality even if you don't have a real CD/DVD on hand. From now on you don't have to change disks manually and you get the full protection of your data, because you don't have to use the original disks. With StarWind's Virtual CD you can save your CDs on your workstation computer and directly link with the application. You and your colleagues will not even know that a CD is needed. When starting the application StarWind Virtual CD will insert the right CD/DVD automatically. Your valuable CDs can be safely kept in a cabinet. You don't need to invest in CD or DVD drives. If your workstation is networked, it's enough to have the StarWind Virtual CD on the fileserver. All workstations can access this virtual CD - with almost fixed disk speed.Another concern is when you don't have access to the real CD/DVD drive and need to emulate it. Making a modern notebook as small and light as possible usually means leaving out the optical drive. If you want to access data, games or music on a CD or DVD, you are faced with a dilemma: you can either pack along an external optical drive and all the optical discs you think you might need-basically negating the major advantages of having a netbook - or do without optical media altogether. StarWind Virtual CD completely eliminates this problem. What's New: NEW release 100% Clean: StarWind Virtual CD 5.5 is 100% clean This download (VirtualCDSetup.exe) was tested thoroughly and was found 100% clean. I'm trying to convert the physical disk of a running machine, the same one where I installed starwind converter. The procedure I follow is the following: P2V -> Physical Disk (I choose both the C drive and the boot partition) -> local file ->VMDK->ESXi Server image->ESXi growable image. At this point I can choose to also save the file to a network location with enough space to hold the file. It’s called “V2V converters review” and it will give you the detailed info on different tools, including StarWind
2025-04-03Software Description: StarWind Virtual CD - Virtual CD extends your infrastructure by adding a virtual DVD-ROM drive locally Virtual CD from StarWind Software, Inc. allows you to create a virtual DVD-ROM drive locally to extend your computing infrastructure.
