Uppercase, lowercase, figures, other, punctuation, superiors, math and diacritics.Starting with uppercase in the horizontal or 'x' direction we will measure the uppercase H left and right stem. This is the UC, X, Straight or stem distance. Continue measuring other uppercase stems and note their distance. Next measure the round uppercase glyphs (B, C, D, G, O, P, Q, R, S.) Note their values. The next group of Cvts are for vertical or 'y' distances. Measure straight stem distances. Measure round 'y' distance, diagonal and serif. The 'y' serif distance is often measured up from a point on the baseline to the top of a serif and from the CAP_HEIGHT to the bottom of a serif. Do the same for lowercase and figures. In the lowercase Cvt group, Cvts are predefined for the i,j dot distances. The X distance is the horizontal dot distance, the first Y distance is the vertical dot distance and the second Y distance is the white space from the top of the i/j to the bottom of the dot.Continue and measure distances as defined by the template's comments. For straight or round features there is an alternate Cvt. This will be used if there are two major distances. Initially only one measurement is needed.Now that we have measured all major glyph distances, we can create some actual Cvt values. The value used should be the most common distance, similar to but not necessarily the mathematical average.
