Is The Ravenscroft 275 Overrated?
Only be recording the Ravenscroft, then of course that doesn't matter.I have now Ableton Live 9 Lite installed but the Ravenscroft 275 doesn't show up as plug-in. In Preferences I have the folder of Ravenscroft 275 already put under Customs Folder but it still doesn't show up under plug-ins. Can you tell whether you have Ableton Live 9 Lite installed as 32-bit or 64-bit version? I have both UVI workstation as well as Ableton installed as 64-bit. However it might be possible that Ravenscroft doesn't show up as plugin in Ableton because it's a 32-bit VST2 file?Last edited by TonyDIGITAL; 07/09/17 08:59 AM.Kawai VPC1 & VSTs: Boesendoerfer 280VC, Yamaha CFX, D-274 (VSL), Yamaha CFX (Garritan), Modern D, Ravenscroft 275, Fazioli 308 (VI Labs), C. Ravenscroft Pianos16701 N 90th St. Suite 101Scottsdale, AZ 85260480-664-3702info@RavenscroftPianos.comwww.RavenscroftPianos.comHandcrafted in Scottsdale, Arizona by piano builder Michael Spreeman, the Ravenscroft piano entered the market for high-end performance pianos in 2006. Two models are available, the 7' 3" model 220 and the 9' model 275. The 220 made its debut in 2007 in the Manufacturers’ Showcase of the 50th Annual Convention of the Piano Technicians Guild. A custom-built model 275 is currently the official piano at the Tempe Center for the Arts. While the general trend in the industry seems to be toward outsourcing to less expensive suppliers, Spreeman says his concept is the exact opposite. Appealing to the niche market of high-end consumers, Spreeman’s approach is more along the lines of the early European small-shop builders, with an emphasis on quality and exclusivity.Ravenscroft is redesigning their pianos with an emphasis on an all-American product featuring cast-iron frames built in the U.S. and keysets built by Reyburn Pianoworks in Michigan. Full production is projected in 2025 with a new Model 220 design, and Model 275 will be replaced by Model 278.In 2021, Ravenscroft opened a performing arts center with two performance venues: a 200-seat auditorium and a smaller intimate jazz venue called JazzBird. A new contemporary showroom and a recording studio are included in the 30,000 sq. Ft building. The venue features three Ravenscroft pianos: two model 220s and one model 275.In partnership with Prime Studio GmbH in Austria, both Ravenscroft piano models have been digitally sampled for the Virtual Instruments recording project and are available as plug-ins for audio production.Ravenscroft 275 Piano on the App Store

Very “real”, & the tweakability makes it so easy to dial in your sound. As I’ve always done, I’ll be choosing between Pianoteq & it (based on which better suits the song I’m cutting at that moment). Lives for gear Joined: May 2010 🎧 10 years Ravenscroft 275 phase issue fix I'm a big fan of the Ravenscroft 275 piano library. However, there are some phase issues--especially in the Close mics--that cause issues when blending mic perspectives.I've come up with a fix that helps greatly.Close mics: delay the left channel 0.4 ms (38 samples at 96k), then flip the phase of BOTH left and right sides;Side Mics: Bring the right channel FORWARD by 0.08 ms (8 samples at 96k);Room mics: flip the phase of both channels.Player mics: are okay.I use Waves InPhase to do this; but any delay plugin that allows you to do negative delays will work. The Close mics are the greatest offender, although they are my favorite of the mic choices. You will find that they combine much better with the Player and Side perspectives now. (I don't much use the Room mics). Of course, it's a piano, so the correlation will swing widely. But now, it will swing almost entirely positive.I am still working on the Player and Side mics individually; however, they seem to combine pretty well already, and the minor tweaks above seem to be good.Hope you find it useful. If anyone comes up with better tweaks, I'm all ears.Rob Attached Thumbnails Last edited by robshrock; 11th April 2019 at 11:54 PM.. But when playing i only use the Close mics because i like to "feel" those titanium strings resonate.Introducing the RAVENSCROFT 275 App for iOs

I have the AcousticSamples C7 Grand, which incidentally also uses the UVI Workstation. I managed to integrate it into Ableton Live 9 Lite, which I got with a Focusrite Scarlett I bought the other day.If I want to record the C7 Grand I'll probably do it through Ableton. It doesn't eat up that much of my computer resources, so it doesn't bother me much. Ableton Lite is available for free, with no time limit it seems. you're determined to avoid using a DAW, I've found out I can record in Audacity, IF I don't use the ASIO driver in the virtual piano software. However, by using the Windows WASAPI driver, MME or any of the other options, the latency is just too much for me.Last edited by TheodorN; 06/07/17 12:18 PM.Me on YouTubeCasio PX-5S. I know, but I don't know if TonyDIGITAL has a Focusrite audio interface. I've registered with the serial number of the Focusrite, and gotten the Ableton Live 9 Lite. For someone who is not an owner of a Focusrite, the Ableton Live 9 Lite is probably not free. TonyDIGITAL, or anyone interested, will have to find out for him- or herself.Actually, Ableton is offering their Intro version for 59 euros. I decided to prepare a short comparison of my 2 favourite piano libraries. At first, I wanted to include Garritan CFX, Pianoteq and Waves Rhapsody as well, but I finally I realised that it would be too long. The video contains following samples for each VST:Bass notes, middle and high notes, all without sustainSome simple passage throughout all registers with sustainUna-cordaStaccatoSympathetic resonanceSome piece of music (Englishman in New York cover) for dynamics overviewI also recorded my comments - I haven't been speaking English for quite some time so I decided it's a good excercise. Please ignore my "ehkm, hmm, yyy, etc." as I've been recording without script.I would appreciate any comments and suggestions for future videos. Having said that your voice is very pleasant to listen to and your English is excellent. From listening to that in relation to Ravenscroft 275, it confirmed my feelings when I was comparing Ravenscroft with VSL Vienna Imperial when I bought VI. There is something about the sound from Ravenscroft that doesn't win me over.In relation to your staccato playing and testing of Und-corda I preferred Ravenscroft to Embertone Walker and I was surprised to learn Embertone Walker doesn't have sympathetic resonance. But on the whole I much preferred the sound of Embertone Walker, especially in your playing of Englishman in NY. There is a richness to the sound which is lovely.Joined: Aug 2018Posts: 326Full MemberFull MemberJoined: Aug 2018Posts: 326Thank you so much for the thorough comparison and your comments. I favor the Ravenscroft in this comparison, although I don’t have either library and have never heard them live. It’s amazing to see a much smaller library outperform an enormous library that eats up CPU usage. I’m in the market for a new vst library and the difficulty I’m having is whether to go with an established And older smaller library Vs. the Newer massive giants like Embertone or VSL 274D. Awwwww snap! A brief look says that this is about twice the amount of samples than Ravenscroft, which seems even more than an additional mic (5 compared to 4) would account for. Weird, because playability is normally one of the things that makes Spectrasonics stuff stand out. 1 local: Korg Nautilus 61 AT | Yamaha MODX8 away: GigPerformer | 16" MBP M1 Max home: Kawai RX-2 | Korg D1 | Roland Fantom X7 Also, make sure you are logged in to your VI Labs account before purchasing Modern D to take advantage of loyalty discounts.
