2025-04-06Home News Fortnite Image credit: VG247 News by Kirk McKeand Former Deputy Editor Published on Sept. 12, 2018 Epic Games is ramping up for the next season of Fortnite, teasing the theme with changes to the map. The mysterious purple lightning strikes that have been happening across the map have now stopped after focusing on a single area in Paradise Palms. In their place is a purple cube that materialised from the assault. If you strike the cube, runes appear on its surface. It also slowly charges your shield if you hang about on it for a while. Here's the moment the cube was created (via @LootLakeBR): pic.twitter.com/4CtQlZIIV8— Fortnite Battle Royale News (@FortniteBR) August 24, 2018Be careful if you swing at it, though - it might bounce you off and to your death. It also appears to be zapping players who shoot at it. Quite what it represents is a mystery, but no doubt we’ll find more in the coming days as the teases continue. The addition of Rifts throughout the map allow you to jump in and get teleported into the sky. This new gameplay mechanic will undoubtedly offer new strategy during fights. NEW RIFTS THROW YOU INTO THE SKY !!! pic.twitter.com/9ZlgAA0sW1 — Scooby (@iScoobyy) July 12, 2018 Speaking of strategy, Update 5.0 brings a ton of changes to shotguns. Epic has essentially removed the shotgun swap strategy. "After firing a shotgun, another shotgun cannot be fired for a very short time," the patch notes read. Other notable gameplay changes and bug fixes in Update 5.0 are listed below. The center of Storm circles 7, 8, and 9 can now shift in random directions (instead of simply shrinking). As the storm closes in, it will move & shrink to the new location. Starting in Season 5, progressive challenges will no longer be restricted to a single season. You can now complete progressive challenges at your own pace. Progressive challenges are now completed by acquiring a fixed amount of XP and is no longer dependant on your season level. Gyro/motion controls have been added to the Nintendo Switch. Adjust these options in the Settings menu. Weekly challenges are now split into two sections, free and Battle Pass. The first 3 challenges will be available for free while the last 4 are only available
2025-03-29PC Gaming Sign in to your Game Rant account Season 7 has hit Fortnite like an iceberg, bringing everything from a new aerial vehicle to new challenges to the battle royale game. Per usual, these weekly challenges are divvied up between free and Battle Pass challenges, with one staged, Battle Pass challenge this week requiring players to find and dance at a Crown of RVs. Of course, many are already diving into the game to gather those battle stars and reach Fortnite Season 7's coveted Ice King skin. To help kickstart that journey, we've compiled this guide to help players find this Crown of RVs. Players will want to make note that it is at the bottom of the Desert biome, namely grid H10. Basically on the border of the grid, Fortnite players will find a bit of the island sticking out. The easiest method would be to drop here, as players will be able to glide in and see the number of vehicles and RVs sticking out of the ground. Once players have landed in the center, they will only need to use a dance emote to complete the first stage of this challenge. For those who prefer a visual guide, we recommend this video by YouTuber Niitq: Interestingly enough, it is nice to see Epic Games continuing to give some attention to the popular Paradise Palms area, especially since season 7 just added a new winter biome that brings some new named locations with it. Those locations, namely Frosty Flights, Polar Peak, and Happy Hamlet, are all likely to be hot spots for the next couple of weeks, so this challenge may take a little heat off Fortnite players. All things considered, it appears that season 7 is off to a good start, as there is plenty of content to bring new and returning players into the fold. Whether it's the new wraps, ziplines, or some interesting Fortnite skins, there's a little bit of something for everyone. Be sure to check back for more news and strategy guides as Fortnite Season 7 marches ever onward. Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
