"The fact they could, if so requested, deliver best-in-class production of every single live event -- football, basketball, Olympic sports included -- is just so unique to them,” said Cohen. “The interesting part about Pac-12 is the blank slate, but [also] the willingness and assets to be able to do new things. An affiliate of the Pac-12 plans to "lay off more than 140 employees at its San Ramon, California, headquarters starting next year following the recent unraveling" of the conference. The affiliate, Pac-12 Enterprises LLC, plans to "cut 141 employees through periodic layoffs expected to begin in January 2024 and continue into late June," days before the "official end of the academic year and Pac-12's expiring TV contract." The affected employees include "more than two dozen senior or vice president-level roles, as well as directors, broadcast engineers, and an on-air host" (S.F. BUSINESS TIMES, 12/14).Meanwhile, Oliver Luck is "still consulting with the ‘Pac-2,’" consisting of Oregon State and Washington State. A source said that Luck has been "focused on the future of the Pac-12 Network." Luck and his team have been "charged with exploring whether there’s a business model that would support keeping the Pac-12 Network operating beyond this summer" (JOHNCANZANO.com, 12/12).
