NVIDIA CloudXR SDK The NVIDIA CloudXR SDK includes a sample Oculus VR client that is designed to work with VR headsets that support the Oculus VR SDK. The client decodes and renders content that is streamed from the CloudXR server and collects motion and controller data from the VR headset that is sent to the CloudXR server. The VR headset must be capable of decoding 4K HEVC video @ 60fps. The provided sample client has been tested with the Oculus Quest Pro and Oculus Quest 3 devices, running at 72 Hz.Building the Oculus VR Client¶Make sure you have everything needed from the Android Sample Clients system requirements.Copy the OVR mobile SDK zip file that you downloaded into the {sdk-root-folder}\Sample\Android\OculusVR\app\libs folder and rename the file ovr_sdk.zip.Copy Google Oboe SDK .AAR file (oboe-1.5.0.aar) into the {sdk-root-folder}\Sample\Android\OculusVR\app\libs folder.Copy the CloudXR SDK client package, which is the CloudXR.aar file, from {sdk-root-folder}\Client\Lib\Android folder to the {sdk-root-folder}\Sample\Android\OculusVR\app\libs folder.Run Android Studio.Complete one of the following tasks:Select Open existing Android Studio project on the Welcome screen.Click File > Open.Navigate to {sdk-root-folder}\Sample\Android and open the OculusVR project/folder.Select Build > Make Project. This process should generate an .apk file in the {sdk-root-folder}\Sample\Android\OculusVR\app\build\outputs\apk\debug directory that can be used to debug or be installed manually. You can also automatically generate a debug-signed .apk by directly running from within Android Studio. See Running the Oculus VR Client for more information.NoteTo build from the command-line, run gradlew build from the OculusVR folder.Installing the Oculus VR Client¶NoteThis section is only necessary should you want to manually install from command-line. If you are running through Android Studio, it will take care of the installation, so you can skip ahead to Running the Oculus VR Client. However, the first few steps below may be relevant if you haven’t already set up for debugging on your device.Place the Oculus VR device in developer mode and allow a USB connection in debug mode on the device.Use a USB cable to connect the Oculus VR device to the development system. If prompted on the device to allow connections, select Allow. In a Command Prompt window, navigate to the folder that contains the .apk file that Was created by building the sample application.Use ADB to install the application from the release .apk file.adb.exe install -r APK name>.apkNoteBy default, the ADB.exe program is installed by Android Studio in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-toolsWhen the installation is complete, ADB responds with a Success message.Running the Oculus VR Client¶Start SteamVR on the server system.Start the CloudXR Client app on the Oculus device. This process can be completed in one of the following ways:If installed from ADB with a launch options file, launch from VR on the device:Open the main menu.Select Library > Unknown Sources.Select the CloudXR Client app.If building in Android Studio, deploy/run directly. You can also set launch options inside the Configuration. Again, for more information on how to set launch options from Android Studio, see Command-Line Options and How to Launch on Android.NoteIf prompted, grant any requested permissions on the device.Start the OpenVR application on the server that will be streamed to the client. This process can be completed in one of the following ways:On the server, just launch the app directly. On VR client with controllers, click Menu on the left controller to bring up the SteamVR launcher, and pick the application from that panel.NoteLaunch the OpenVR application only after the client has connected to the server unless the client has been pre-configured on the server. Otherwise, the application will report that there is no connected headset. (This is because when a client first connects, it reports its specifications, such as resolution and refresh rate, to the server, at which time the server creates a virtual headset device.)If the application exits immediately, ensure that you have disabled all Oculus experimental features, such as Show My Desk in VR.Oculus client buggin : r/oculus - Reddit
Step into the block-like world of Roblox on your standalone headset using this step-by-step guide. Those familiar with massively multiplayer online games are no doubt familiar with Roblox. Originally released back in 2006 on desktop PCs, the wildly popular multiplayer sandbox game has since expanded onto multiple platforms, amassing a rabidly loyal fanbase of mostly younger players in the process. But did you know everyone’s favorite kid-friendly MMO game can also be accessed in VR? Yes, it’s true! Over the past couple of years, dedicated users have begun offering their own Roblox worlds compatible with PCVR headsets, allowing those in VR to interact with other players logged in via a smart device, console, or desktop PC. And let’s just say the results are… interesting to say the least. But what about all of my standalone VR users out there? Today I’m going to be explaining how to play Roblox in VR on your Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 headset. Here’s how to get started: Bad news first. In order to run Roblox on the Oculus Quest/Quest 2, you will need a VR-ready PC. While I agree the block-like MMO would make for the perfect Oculus Quest game, at the time of this writing there is currently no way to get Roblox running on the Oculus Quest on its own. The good news, however, is that there are multiple ways of connecting your Quest 2 to your PC on the cheap. This will wear down the batter more quickly, but if fully charged, it should last long enough for a single client VR session, 1-2 hours. Here's a video that shows how to use an Enscape EXE file to deliver a full VR experience using a Meta Quest 2 (or Quest 3):ConclusionEnscape offers "best-in-class" real-time rendering quality and ease of navigation in the AEC market space. Home Audio / VideoNews SamsungThanks to Apple’s recently released Vision Pro headset, the VR wars are hotter than ever. And yet, not everyone wants to be a part of the action. Plex — a very popular media streaming platform that folks use to organize and play their personal movie, TV, and music collections — has just announced that it’s discontinuing support for its existing VR client apps. The affected devices include Google’s Daydream (which itself lost support when Google abandoned it in 2019), Oculus Go, and Samsung’s Gear VR. Plex announced the change via an email to members, with the headline “VR apps are going away.”“As part of our efforts to make sure we’re focusing our resources in ways that best serve our Plex community, we’ve decided to officially end support for our Google Daydream, Gear VR, and Oculus Go apps. You’re receiving this email because our data indicates that you’ve recently used one of these apps.” Please enable Javascript to view this content Plex apologized for the change, noting that “overall low usage played a major role in our decision process. Additionally, these platforms are either currently not, or soon will not be, supported by their manufacturers.”As is common when companies remove support for a given app or device, these Plex clients will continue working — for now. The risk is that, without the company’s support, changes to the main Plex media server software could cause problems with how these client apps work — or potentially prevent them from working at all.Plex isn’t just done with legacy VR devices like the Oculus Go and Gear VR — it appears to be reticent about VR platforms as a whole. The company never released a client app for the Meta Quest family of headsets, and it has said it doesn’t have any current plans to support the Apple Vision Pro.We’re a little surprised by this decision, seeing as the Vision Pro has received nearly unanimous praise as a home theater replacement.Still, Plex fans aren’t entirely without VR options. Some users on Reddit report that they’ve had limited success getting the Plex iPadOS app to work on the Vision Pro, while Meta Quest headset users can still buy the $10 third-party Movie Deck app, which acts as client for Plex on that platform.
