My task bar is gone

12 Joined: Sun Oct 26, 2008 4:13 am PostRe: Mailwasher 6.3 Problem Solved (another created) Sun Oct 26, 2008 10:17 pm Whilst I was waiting for MW to actually do something I checked Task Manager at it showed FWService.exe was using 98% of CPU. I presumed that if I stopped the FWService.exe from running then Mailwasher may have a chance to do its business. I haven't gone back and reinstalled 6.2 and the Firewall to see what happens but I might if I find the time!! It has taken hours to sort it as far as this. I have updated my ticket with Firetrust to see if they know of any known issues with PC Tools software. As PC Tools software was recommended by Nick Bolton I assume it would have been fully tested. Tue Oct 28, 2008 6:26 am Well, not a "Big" let down, but certainly a disappointment.I've also been using Mailwasher Pro for many years, and this is the first upgrade that's gone awry. I am also having issues with Mailwasher's sluggishness, though with loading, not account interrogating; I'm also having erratic minimising issues.The first prob is that 6.3 is taking much much longer to fire up than past versions, causing my machine to hang while it does, though once MW's going it does seem to access my accounts promptly, and the filters seem unimpaired.But it's not always minimising properly. I have MW set to 'Minimise' to the Task Panel in the bottom right of the Task Bar after processing, but I'm getting left with redundant 'buttons' for WM in the Task Bar itself in addition to the icon in the Task Panel. It's creating clutter, and the only way I can get rid is to shut down MW and re-load (which is taking time, of course), and that method doesn't guarantee that I won't have redundant buttons again when it minimises. Furthermore, when I try to do something about the spurious buttons in the Task Bar (say right clicking to access the 'Close' command), my whole PC freezes for a while.Finally, when I try to launch the minimised MW from the Task Panel, it's slow to respond

When I right click on my task bar and click on Start Task Manager it gives me an error Windows cannot find "C:\windows\system32\taskmgr.exe" Make sure you have typed the name correctly and try again.So I tried executing task manager from system32 directory, still it gives me the same error. Has my task manager gone corrupt ? The culprit was the value "Debugger" under "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\taskmgr.exe". Some older installation of Process Explorer which had not been properly uninstalled had registered itself as the debugger of taskmgr.exe by storing its path in there, but that path did not exist anymore, so windows would refuse to run taskmgr.exe because it could not find the debugger for it. Deleting the "Debugger" value fixed the problem. answered May 18, 2013
