Jan 8, 2013, 7:48 am (15 comments) The Kentucky Lottery has launched the new Fun Club Rewards program, a multi-part initiative which rewards players with points for eligible non-winning scratch-off tickets purchased while making them automatically entered into drawings to win large cash prizes. The key to the program is the ability for players to accumulate points based on eligible non-winning scratch-off tickets purchased. "The value of the points vary among tickets," said the Kentucky Lottery's Sr. VP of Marketing Steve Casebeer. "Once players enter their tickets on our website, they accumulate points which can then be redeemed for merchandise from music downloads to sporting goods to televisions." Players are limited to entering 200 tickets per week.Another benefit of the program is entry into the Lottery's Ultimate Second Chance program. "When players enter their eligible non-winning tickets on the Fun Club Rewards site, in addition to receiving points, they are automatically registered for a second-chance drawing which will award a cash prize," said the Lottery's Vice President of Marketing Kate Leverette.Kentucky is the seventh state to launch this type of rewards program, according to Casebeer. "Other lotteries who have started this type of program have seen not only a sales increase but positive feedback from players as well," he said. "Consumers these days are used to having rewards programs for retail purchases. Everyone from grocery stores to hotel chains have been doing this for years, and we're excited to bring this opportunity to our players."To register, a player can become a member of the Fun Club Rewards program by visiting kylottery.com. The majority of states operate an official lottery to raise revenue for education, housing, or some other specific public good or service. In fact, many states stipulate that a certain percentage of lottery revenue must be spent on a given beneficiary (preschool programs, for example). State lotteries typically consist of both number drawings (the player picks a string of numbers) and scratch-off tickets (with instant prizes). The odds of hitting a jackpot in any lottery are extremely low, but the payoff is potentially huge, often in the tens of millions. The Kentucky State Lottery at a GlanceThe state of Kentucky started its official lottery in 1989 and has raised more than $4.1 billion in state revenue, according to the Kentucky Lottery Web site. The statute directs the Kentucky Lottery Corporation to contribute 35 percent of total sales on dividends to the state, although the Kentucky Lottery Corp. claims 26.7 percent of sales went toward the state in fiscal year 2014. Proceeds go toward the Kentucky Early Childhood Reading Incentive Fund, the Kentucky Housing Corporation's Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and the general fund.As in other states that have official lotteries, Kentucky statute prohibits the sale of lottery tickets to minors; makes it a crime to forge or alter tickets; and imposes a 180-day time limit for claiming prizes. The following chart provides additional details about the Kentucky's state lottery laws.Code Section154A.010. et seq.Distribution of Lottery Revenue35% general fund; rest for expenses and prizesAdditional Purpose of LotteryIntended to benefit early childhood literacy programs, college

(WKYT)—Lottery tickets are a common stocking stuffer for adults this time of year. For today’s Good Question, Joe asks: “Do scratch-off lottery tickets have an expiration date?”They do, and it’s going to depend on when the game ends.Unlike games like Powerball or Mega Millions, which are valid for 180 days from the date of the drawing, scratch-offs look at the date the game ends. That’s going to be different for each ticket, but the Kentucky Lottery keeps a list of them, along with the prizes remaining for each ticket, on their website. For example, the last date to claim Nutcracker Cash, which will be sold until next September, is March 31, 2026.Money in the unclaimed prize pool goes to the KEES scholarship reserve fund. The lottery says, “Since fiscal year 2003, nearly $119 million in unclaimed prizes has gone to this fund to ensure the financial stability of the program.”If you have a Good Question you’d like us to try to answer, send it to [email protected] 2024 WKYT. Prizes, seemed to appeal to lottery players. So much so that within two years, the company was worth $15 million. That's the equivalent of about $92 million today. With its increasing success, SGC became attractive to many investors and business owners. In 1981, Koza sold it to Bally Manufacturing, a company that made pinball machines and arcade games. Four years later, instant-win games rose to a new level when the California Lottery ordered 700 million tickets. Around the same time, the Take-a-Ticket display format was introduced. This enabled customers to easily see which tickets were available up close, making them more likely to purchase one. From there, scratch-off tickets never looked back. Bigger prizes, better scratch-offsDuring the late 80s and early 90s, the demand for instant-win ignited further with the introduction of computer-generated scratch-off cards. This encourages many more jurisdictions throughout the U.S. to add instant-win games to their lottery inventory. In 1987, Missouri advanced scratchers further by launching the first $2 instant-win game. The higher price meant bigger prizes than the original $0.25 and $0.50 tickets. They were an instant hit, and this was just the beginning of the expansion of a wider price range. By 2000, over 30 billion instant-win tickets were sold worldwide, generating more than $50 in revenue annually. In many American jurisdictions, scratch-off tickets accounted for more than half of all lottery sales. Today, instant-win games are even more popular, and more types of scratch-off tickets are available than ever before. In 2022, people all over the world spent an amazing $348.3 billion on lottery tickets, and almost half of that amount was on instant-win tickets. Why are scratch-off games so popular? There's no denying the popularity of instant-win games, but what is it about them that makes them so appealing? Here are a few ideas: Easy to find: You don't have to look hard to find scratch cards these days. Many retail outlets sell them, including gas stations, pharmacies, convenience stores, grocery stores, bars, liquor stores, and casinos. Instant gratification: One of the great things about scratch cards is that there's no need to wait for a drawing, and you can know immediately if you are a winner. Wide price range: You can wager anywhere between $1 and $50 in many states, so you can purchase a ticket that suits your pocket. Convenience: You can play scratch-off cards anywhere. In the store where you bought them, in your car, or at home. You can even play many online at your state lottery website or on your mobile app. Varied prize range: The more you wager, the more you can win. You don't have to settle for a few hundred dollars; you can try for a
