Pete Davidson has a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that fans might have missed. After fans noticed 29-year-old Davidson's name in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's credits when it premiered in theaters, director James Gunn, 56, confirmed on Twitter Sunday that the comedian/actor made a cameo as an alien named Phlektik. "I voiced the beautiful Lambshank. I don't want to show her here because she's too gorgeous & I don't want folks to feel bad about themselves in comparison," Gunn wrote on Twitter in response to a fan who asked about both his and Davidson's cameos. "And my friend Pete not only voiced but actually came to visit us in Atlanta for a day and played Phlektik on set," he added, sharing a selfie photo of himself, Davidson and Guardians star Chris Pratt, as well as a picture of Davidson in his full alien costume. Davidson previously worked with Gunn on 2021's DC movie The Suicide Squad, in which he played a character named Blackguard. Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Other actors who made appearances in Vol 3. include Sylvester Stallone, who reprised his Vol. 2 role as Stakar Ogord, and Linda Cardellini, who voiced Rocket's (Bradley Cooper) otter friend Lylla. Maria Bakalova (Bodies, Bodies, Bodies) also reprised her role as the talking dog Cosmo, who first appeared in last year's Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Gunn himself has made a variety of cameos across his Guardians trilogy, as well as actors like John C. Reilly and Rob Zombie, who appeared in 2014's original comic book film. Seth Green, David Hasselhoff, Ving Rhames, Michelle Yeoh and Miley Cyrus each made cameos in 2017's sequel. As Gunn answered questions from fans on Twitter Sunday, he reaffirmed that Vol. 3 will be the last of his Guardians movies as he moves on to direct DC Studios' upcoming Superman: Legacy film. The filmmaker added that he expects at least one Guardians cast member to appear in his Superman movie, though he did not confirm who that actor is. Julien Hekimian/Getty The third Guardians movie marks the end of the Guardians as fans know them. Pratt, 43, recently told PEOPLE the cast plans to stay in touch through a group text. From Gary Farmer, reprising his role as Nobody from 1995’s Dead Man). That said, this is a melancholic, meditative, and anodyne affair, and not your typical action-thriller at all. If you like your films subversive, off-kilter, deliberately paced, unpredictable, and full to burst with pop culture worship, then Ghost Dog and you may just be a perfect fit.6. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)“We’re just like Kevin Bacon,” says green-skinned warrior Gamora (Zoe Saldana) to her half-human, half-alien companion Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who previously taught her all about “the legend of Footloose” and its iconic hero. And that’s just one of many largely 1980s-era pop references that populate Guardian of the Galaxy, the self-referential comic-book movie that rescued the Marvel Cinematic Universe from bombastic repetition with lots of laughs via reference humor (“If I had a blacklight, this would look like a Jackson Pollock painting,”), light-hearted sci-fi parodies, and endlessly silly name-dropping (“Well, I come from a planet of outlaws: Billy the Kid, Bonnie and Clyde, John Stamos,”).Part of what makes James Gunn’s Guardians such a success is the ensemble cast that includes a lot of A-listers in very odd roles, such as Vin Diesel tree-like humanoid Groot, Bradley Cooper’s big-mouthed, genetically engineered raccoon, Rocket, and WWE professional wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista’s humorless warrior Drax the Destroyer. These are the misfits that make up the titular Guardians, who, armed with their wits, specialized skills, and a mix tape of soft favorites from the 1960s, 1970s and early 80s (Redbone’s 1973 hit “Come and Get Your Love” or Quill’s hilarious “dance off bro” against dark lord Ronan the Accuser [Lee Pace] to the Five Stairsteps’s “Ooh Child” are each inspired standout sequences), will help save the galaxy, or at least the peaceful citizens of Xandar.Sure, it’s a calorie-rich and over-stuffed confection, but for old school Marvel comic book collectors, and anyone who cut their sci-fi teeth on a stable diet of 1970s and 1980s content, Guardians of the Galaxy is a fully realized world and one obsessed as much as its fans with the minutiae of yesterday’s space operas, 8-tracks, and Heather Locklear pinups. This article contains full spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now in theaters, and it feels like an example of something that’s become all too rare in this age of superhero blockbuster franchises: a real ending. The incarnation of the team we were introduced to almost a decade ago in 2014 has disbanded, and while all of the principal members survived, the way the film ends makes it quite clear that these characters have moved on from being a tight-knit group.Yet amidst all these personal journeys coming to a close, one new character was introduced, who also winds up having the most perplexing role of all: Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock. The cosmic hero made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Vol. 3 as an antagonist who ends up being part of the new lineup of Guardians by the end-credits scene. But even with that arc, Adam rarely feels like a critical part of what’s going on, leaving us wondering why the MCU bothered adapting the character at all. What happened here? Let’s take a look.Every Guardian of the Galaxy EverAdam Warlock: A Delayed DebutWhen it became clear that the MCU’s first three Phases were going to revolve around the Infinity Stones, many comic fans naturally assumed that Adam Warlock was going to play a part in that story. Adam may have had his beginnings in the pages of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four book in 1967, but the character only. Trashed by each guardian, but Rocket, in a major sign of growth, doesn’t land the killing blow. He’s not the violent animal he was before; he’s learned that blind hatred and death just aren’t the answer. He leaves the High Evolutionary to die on the ship and we do see the ship explode. However, we never actually see the villain die in the ship. I know, it may seem like I’m splitting hairs here, but as every comic book fan knows, if you don’t see a body, then nobody really died. You can argue the Guardians as a team dies at the end of Vol. 3Marvel Studios Image used with permission by copyright holderWhile it seems that no Guardian died and only the villain died at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, you could argue that the Guardians as a team dies at the end of the film. After Peter is saved and the High Evolutionary is dispatched, some time passes on Knowhere as people patch up their wounds. Gamora has already gone, telling her former teammates her life is now with the Ravagers. It’s at the point that the original Guardians of the Galaxy team disbands. Star-Lord tells his friends he wants to go back to Earth and find his still-alive grandfather and resume the childhood he never had. Mantis speaks of her desire to find out who she is and leaves with three of High Evolutionary’s animals as her companions. Guardians in doubt. But despite the lack of information on any future Guardians continuity, the franchise still has several key heroes who are important to the overall Marvel canon. Characters like Adam Warlock and Phyla point a very specific spotlight on the Guardians of the Galaxy. And there will be important roles for them to play in the future. So even if there isn’t a Vol. 4, we’re almost guaranteed to see the Guardians again. The New Guardians of the Galaxy \nDisney""> Marvel StudiosDisney The two most famous iterations of the Guardians of the Galaxy are the original team we saw put together in the MCU and a more recent version in a comic book run by Brian Michael Bendis made up of Rocket, Groot, Drax, Venom, the Thing and Kitty Pryde. The team we saw at the end of Vol. 3 was a little different with Kraglin, Phyla, Adam Warlock, and Cosmo, along with Rocket and Groot. Despite these not being the most familiar names, these characters are, on the whole, significantly more powerful than the previous teammates. Adam Warlock eventually becomes the avatar of the cosmic entity Life. In the comics, he also carries an infinity stone, but it’s unlikely Marvel will bring those back. In a certain timeline, Warlock turns evil and, calling himself Magus, has a reality-bending fight with Phyla. Phyla herself is quite a powerful player. Along with becoming the new Captain Marvel at one point, she becomes the avatar of Oblivion, making her one of the deadliest beings in the Marvel universe. As the MCU moves forward with its Multiverse Saga, a lot of powerful cosmic entities are bound to come into play, and, at least in the comics, these are two extremely key figures when dealing with multiversal forces. At the moment, it’s unclear exactly what Phyla’s role will be in the future of the MCU. They may have cast her so young so that she would have a bigger role down the line. And it’s possible Gunn may have rewritten her history a little bit with the High Evolutionary. But she and Adam Warlock are, at least in theory, essential to the overarching Marvel narrative. We’ll have to wait to see what Kevin Feige has in store for them.. Movies & TV Sign in to your Game Rant account It should come as no surprise that the San Diego Comic-Con has been full of announcements about Marvel's plans for upcoming films. On Saturday night, those announcements included the announcement of just who Chukwudi Iwuji will play in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Chukwudi Iwuji has been an official member of the cast of GOTG 3 for several months now but up until this weekend, just who he was going to play was a mystery. In fact, it was the kind of mystery that the actor and the people behind the movie seemed to be having quite a bit of fun keeping secret. It now appears that Kevin Feige and other Marvel bigwigs had long been planning to finally reveal the character at San Diego Comic-Con. Now that it's been revealed who he'll play, the guessing game turns to just how his character will mesh with the Guardians and some other characters that have been confirmed for the upcoming film. During Saturday night's Hall H presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con, Feige announced that Iwuji was playing none other than famed super-villain, The High Evolutionary. Not only was the actor's role revealed but he even marched down the aisle in what appears to be the costume he'll be sporting when he appears in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Announced back in November as part of the GOTG 3 cast, this is actually the second super-hero project Iwuji has worked on alongside James Gunn. The first project recently wrapped its first season in the form of HBO Max's Peacemaker. Of course, considering his character was killed off towards the end of that season, Iwuji's work on that series appears to be over. That seems to mean that the actor can throw himself into the role of the High Evolutionary, who has long been one of the most interesting villains in Marvel comics mainly because he doesn't necessarily think of himself as a villain. In the comics, he was once a man of science who ended up unlocking the potential ability to evolve into something more than human. He then set to work trying to "evolve" other animals, people, and races around the universe. Just what the Peacemaker alum's role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be isn't quite known yet. While he's thought to be one of, if not the Big Bad in the film, just how he will appear and why the Guardians will go up against him hasn't been divulged. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. MORE: Guardians of the Galaxy's Loss is Mass Effect's Gain Source: Brandon Davis|TwitterComments
