Plus, the GPS from my VHF as backup. As was mentioned, you have to play around with the connections to get it working. You'll see the Sat connection go green in the upper right hand corner of the display when the connection makes.Btw, if plan to use OpenCPN why are you going to purchase charts? 25-08-2021, 09:00 #5 Registered User Join Date: Aug 2021 Posts: 4 Re: New User Help With GPS Many thanks for taking the time to reply.Within Options I have the following set: Type Direction Protocol Serial Baudrate PriorityEnable Serial Input NMEA0183 COM1 4800 1Still showing location at 'Null Island' 25-08-2021, 12:21 #6 Registered User Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Chesapeake Bay/Eastern ShoreBoat: Bristol 27 Posts: 10,947 Re: New User Help With GPS I don't have OpenCPN here where I am now but you have to play around with the connection sometimes like try a different port or maybe priority 0 instead of 1.

(even a different Baudrate)I believe my GPS Dongle had a 4800 Baudrate and my VHF 38400Things like that.I can usually get mine working like that. I'm continually taking my GPS dongle home and hooking it up to my laptop and have to do the connection again and forget the exact numbers but can usually get it working without looking them up. Home is close enough to the coast to see the "little boat" (my position) on the chart as well.I have OpenCPN loaded on Windows 10 at home on my laptop and on my Raspberry Pi on the boat. (and spare Raspberry Pi at home) The boat has GPS on Priority 0 and Priority 1 due to the two GPS inputs. AIS data also comes in from the VHF. VHF data is NMEA 0183 thru a 422 adapter into USB. The dongle is straight USB.The debug window also will immediately show you when the connection is made for that GPS data 25-08-2021, 13:29 #7 Registered User Join Date: Jul 2018 Location: SF Bay AreaBoat: Other people's boats Posts: 1,194 Re: New User Help With GPS Is GPSComplete able to get the data it needs to present to OpenCPN? Based on what I read at there should be a "Tests" menu that allows you to confirm it's getting good data. If it isn't, you first need to ensure everything is enabled on the Windows side.Once GPSComplete is happy, you can then work on getting OpenCPN talking with it. 26-08-2021, 03:35 #8 Registered User Join Date: Aug 2021 Posts: 4 Re: New User Help With GPS Thank you all for the very kind offers of help, its appreciated. This is what OpenCPN is currently showing: Attached Thumbnails 26-08-2021, 04:46 #9 Registered User Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Chesapeake Bay/Eastern ShoreBoat: Bristol 27 Posts: 10,947 Re: New User Help With GPS Quote: Originally Posted by Rusty10 Thank you all for the very kind offers of help, its appreciated. This is what OpenCPN is currently showing: That's how it usually comes up after you first download OpenCPN.If that is the area you want you are set, if not, move the map/chart over to the part of the world you want and download some charts.I'm located at the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay, and here's how my OpenCPN looks after moving the map to my part of the world and downloading the charts (RNC I believe) and connecting the GPS and AIS inputs. The red boat shows my boat's position. The pictures with the darker blue are from my Raspberry Pi computer and displayed on a monitor then there is also a picture of the same OpenCPN Chart on my Laptop at home.Looks like I clicked on an AIS target before taking the picture as it is giving AIS info on a ship from Great Britain 26-08-2021, 05:19 #10 Registered User Join Date: Aug 2020 Location: Melbourne, AustraliaBoat: Swarbrick S-80 Posts: 1,014 Re: New User Help With GPS Quote: Originally Posted by thomm225 Btw, if plan to use OpenCPNGPSComplete/AndroidManifest.xml at master - GitHub
