Think the browser is just simply not recognizing the touches behind the bottom toolbar. Try to longpress anywhere when you try 2-3, you will select random text which is located much higher than the virtual press-point is located. So my theory with even duplex, Kiwi's bottom toolbar and the early versions of Duet the bottom bar just visually got hidden, but technically it's there when you want to use some page-elements behind it.
