Garmin roadtrip

Computer this long trying to figure this out. Roadtrip for the mac is the rough equivalent of mapsource for the pc. Open it up and browse to the "Garmin" folder. Inside the "Garmin" folder you should see a file named gmapsupp.img. This is the map that you sent from MapInstall. You can safely delete this file and then unplug your Zumo. However, today I happened to notice my hard drive was running out of space. I did clean up the usual suspects but also ran Omni Disk Sweeper to find other culprits. I was surprised to see Garmin hit the top of the list. Apparently the file namedAlldata.gdb.bakwas listed at 38 Gb. NOT Mb, but Gb! Whoa! That's half the capacity of my other laptop. I'm glad I installed it on my desktop. Sheesh.So, my question is:Does anyone know if this is typical of the filesize? Can it be deleted? ".bak" suggests to me it is just a backup file; an extremely large back-up file!Any suggestions out there?Thanks! How large is the file named Alldata.gdb?You are correct in thinking that the .bak is a backup, so it can be deleted if necessary...

But it will be recreated next time you run RoadTrip. I'm going to have to look into this one a bit more to pin point what is going on. Yikes!Thanks for the quick reply. Seriously, you're involvement here on this forum is incredible. So many companies or products offer such little, or limited support for the products foisted on us that I am often left feeling cheated on my purchase. The Zumo and all your input here on the forum have been wonderful. Ok, enough kudos....I really can't explain the size of this file. I will try deleting it and see if it recreates this size file. I do have several routes and waypoints in My Collection but had no idea it would lead to this. Not sure if anyone can help but I've installed free Greece map ( in RoadTrip and all works fine with contours etc. all showing. When I use MapInstall to load onto my Garmin Etrex HCX all seems to work except that details such as contours and tracks disappear whatever the magnification. It worked once at the start but I deleted that gmapsupp.img to make a better one (what a shame!). What's up with my garmin apps? We're planning a ride to Greece in September then plan to go on walking trips - but without map details we'll be up a creek without a puddle.Any ideas? Windows, because I couldn't deal with the ridiculous slowness, buggy functionality and constant hang-ups and crashes. Sad, but true. Perhaps you should try BaseCamp instead -- it does allow you to edit tracks and way points. I've created a bunch of routes/waypoints in RoadTrip on my Mac, sent them to my Zumo 450 and am now trying to transfer that data from the Zumo into MapSource on my laptop without any success. When I try, MapSource just says there are no routes/tracks/waypoints on the device. I went ahead and registered it with the Garmin website to download the latest firmware. I then used the unit to check out if everything worked out. It did and it says I have maps "City navigator North America NT 2009 [1] ALL" in my Zumo.So, the next thing I do is place the City Navigator NT North America DVD into my Mac following the instruction on the back thinking it will load Map Source but all that installed was two programs called "Garmin Mapinstall" and "Garmin MapManager" But no MapSource. I thought MapSource is on the DVD.

I could live without the mapping deal, but what I was really after was a bigger track memory. I routinely filled the GPS12's 1024 points in just over half a day's riding. Uhhh, I guess I should have mentioned LoadMyTracks way back when. I've been using it to extract the track log of my 260C for quite a while. I then use GPSPhotoLinker to match the tracklog up to any pics I've taken. The tracklog plus the info in the pics is used to create a google map that show the route taken and where the pics were shot. Example at the bottom of this page: see that google has a new API for their maps... I'm going to have to figure out how to do all that yet again. I um ... don't want to read through 80 pages of threads to get a simple answer.Does Garmin make a Program like Map Source For use on my Mac that I can down load or buy a disc and just start using it with out converting anything.
