Draft is a no-brainer. It makes the writing process incredibly efficient, and ensures that all the formatting is correct. For a pro, the $250 cost is a simple business expense that is easily justified.For an aspiring screenplay writer or someone writing for an amateur production, the cost is much harder to justify. And Final Draft charges for major updates, so it’s not just a one-off cost either.There are other apps out there that support Final Draft’s FDX format, so you might want to look at these – including Fade In ($80) and Writer, which is completely free. I may look at these later if there’s sufficient interest.But if you have reasonably serious screenwriting ambitions, and can afford the price, there’s an obvious sense to using the industry-standard software. Even if you have great writing skills, you could still hit a pot hole when it comes to arranging a text according to the genre it belongs to. You can write a best selling book or a future blockbuster, but it may be turned down because you don't know how to write a draft or a script. Final Draft helps you overcome those challenges allowing you to concentrate solely on you writing. It's not exactly cheap and 32 Mb could keep you waiting if your Internet speed is slow, but it's worth the time and the money. Basically, it's a text editor with features also found in MS Word. It's main feature that the text itself can be organised according to scenes, locations, characters and many more and it's variety of text templates. Be it a novel, a screen play or a query letter, Final Draft has it all as templates and all you have to do is something of the "fill in the blanks" sorts. For instance, if you chose a screenplay template and you can find the series title, episode title, scene indicators, dialog, all write down like it's telling you "write this here". Once you finish a text, you can assign a fully customisable narrator to read it. The templates are very well organised into categories like graphic novels, scripts, text documents and TV templates. An interesting thing is that you can find script examples from most of the well known TV series like House M.D. or CSI. The navigation is made easy due to a window with page numbers, titles or locations. You should make sure you know what to write. It's interface is not complicated, it has a basic tool bar and option menus, but if you just click around aimlessly, you may get lost in all those options. A tutorial or two couldn't hurt either, but thankfully Final Draft already has it covered on their website with a few videos and texts.
