FastRawViewer 2.0.9 Release
If you are not saving images simultaneously to two memory cards on your camera, or you don’t have any backups, you might be risking potentially losing your images. While FastRawViewer never deletes anything when culling images (files are moved to a “Rejected” folder), if your memory card is about to fail, additional write operations could make matters worse.Remember, the goal is to eliminate all bad images and only be left with real keepers that you will then import into your post-processing software of choice. You do not want to be losing any images in the process!5) Importing Starred and Color-Labeled ImagesAs I cull through images, I also make sure to select images that are worth editing. Similar to Lightroom, FastRawViewer provides two ways to mark images – using stars and using color labels. Once you star or color-label your images, the information is immediately stored in a sidecar file, so that Lightroom or other post-processing software can take advantage of it. This saves quite a bit of time, since you don’t have to render any JPEG previews and look through images again. Once imported into Lightroom, all star rankings and color labels are preserved, as shown below:6) FastRawViewer PL DiscountWe asked our friends at FastRawViewer for a special discount and they happily agreed! 2025-04-24The eGPU connected, like super slow: After clicking on File in the menu bar, I have to wait several seconds for the menu to appear. Navigating into Preferences takes a lot of patience. reply Could you please answer the Could you please answer the question asked in our 1st reply: to which GPU you connect your display when using A2000? -- Alex Tutubalin/FastRawViewer team reply Sure! I use the display of my Sure! I use the display of my ThinkPad X1 Tablet 3rd gen. I don’t connect an external display. It is not necessary to use an external display with an eGPU, something which I didn’t know myself for quite a while. The eGPU sends its output back via Thunderbolt to the host. Anyhow, the slowness now also happens without eGPU. I assume a reinstall of FastRawViewer would fix the issue, like it did the last time. Slow is the whole UI. I tried changing the graphics engine from OpenGL to DirectX 11, but that had no effect on performance. It’s still super slow. reply If your display is connected If your display is connected to internal GPU: please force to use internal GPU with FastRawViewer (via NVidia control panel).Rendering on eGPU results in lot of extra overhead: data uploaded to eGPU, rendered on eGPU then rendering result transferred to iGPU and re-rendered on it in framebuffer (and all transfers are done via 4-lane-max thunderbolt connection). -- Alex Tutubalin/FastRawViewer team reply The slowness persists after The slowness persists after unplugging
2025-03-28In FastRawViewer 1.7 we added:• Support for HEIC/HEIF File Formats (in 64-bit versions of Windows, and in regular (non-Legacy) versions for macOS)• XMP support for TIFF, PNG, HEIC/HEIF files• Linear View Mode - a New View Mode, "without beautifications"• Other/minor changes and bugfixesSupport for HEIC/HEIF File FormatsAttention: support for this formats is only accessible in the 64-bit version of Windows, and in regular (not Legacy) version for macOS.Starting with FastRawViewer 1.7, files with the HEIC (8 bit) and HEIF (10 bit) format are supported with the following limitations and specifications:Only real files of the indicated formats are supported, ones that have the format heic or heix (this is HEIF) recorded in the ftyp tag (box). The HEIC/HEIF files most widespread among photographers (taken with iPhone or Canon cameras) are supported.Support for this format is turned on by a checkbox in the HEIC/HEIF files support group in Preferences – File Formats (see the picture below).Other settings in this group:HEIC/HEIF files extensions (types): file extensions that FastRawViewer will recognize as HEIC/HEIFJoin RAW+HEIC: joins RAW and HEIC files with the same name (like it is for RAW+JPEG). If there is a RAW, HEIC, and JPEG, then RAW+JPEG will be joined.Prefer thumbnails in Grid/Filmstrip (faster): Apple HEIC files contain a small preview (320x240). If the size of the preview as set in FastRawViewer is bigger, then when setting this checkbox the preview embedded in the file will be zoomed to the size set in FastRawViewer. If the checkbox is unchecked, then the full size of the file will be used, and previews will be built fairly slowly.Settings in the Non-RAW decode priorities group: settings for individual HEIC/HEIF and for HEIC files in a group with RAW have been added, they work the same way as the settings for JPEGs.Color data: the built-in profile (which is in files from i-Devices) is supported, ITUR_2100_PQ_FULL (the profile for Canon files, which is identified by color tags) is supported. Other variants of color tags are not supported because of a lack of examples, files with other variants will be considered sRGB.When working with files from Apple devices (which are recorded in the Display P3 color space), it is recommended that one set Color space for Thumbnails: Display P3 in Preferences – Color Management (see the picture below), that way the color of the previews in the Filmstrip and Grid View mode will be more accurate. For HEIC/HEIF files, there are separate size limits set for displaying in one window and for previews, they are similar to those for TIFF and PNG: the size (in megapixels) of files displayed as a preview and in one window (see the picture below) is limited. The HEIC/HEIF decoder is multi-threaded, and is launched only when

In this case, the effect of the token is immediately displayed in the Sample line.Sequence start field – the initial counter setting from which the incrementing starts, from 1 to 999999999. When the counter reaches 999999999 it restarts from 1.The [X] button to the right of the Sequence start field resets its value to 1.With standard settings the initial value of the sequence is set to 1 when FastRawViewer is launched; it increments as used during the session, but it’s not saved on exit from FastRawViewer. However, Preferences – Copy/Move/Rename – Keep sequence numbers for rename between session saves the counter globally:The counter is retrieved from the FastRawViewer system settings right before opening the Rename Files dialogThe counter is saved in the FastRawViewer system settings right after the rename is complete. As a result, unique numbers are ensured even if multiple instances of FastRawViewer are running concurrently (so long as the renaming dialogs are not launched simultaneously). The On conflict or error line determines behavior when a naming conflict and/or an error when renaming occurs:“Stop” – Stop“Skip” – Skip the files with renaming conflicts or errors“Try –(NN) suffix, then stop” – try adding a suffix –(nn) /two-digit number/, if this doesn’t work (files …-(01)…-(99) already exist) – then stop.“Try –(NN) suffix, then skip” – try adding a suffix, if it doesn’t work then skip. The ‘Enable history’ checkbox toggles rename history log:When the log is on, the input line becomes a drop-down list, and the elements of the list can be reused. This list stores the last 20 rename patterns (only the ones that contain tokens). To clear the log, use Menu – File – Customize – “Clean Recently used lists” – “Rename history”.Associated files: renaming files works for a group of
