2025-04-05The V20's camera didn't blow me away. Lynn La/CNET Enlarge Image Snapping a regular photo with the front-facing camera (left) and using its wide-angle feature (right). Lynn La/CNETThe V20 does pack tons of camera and editing tools, though. It has video filters, a manual mode (for adjusting things like ISO levels and white balance) and more. It uses advanced optical image stabilization (something the Pixel doesn't have) to make it easier to snap clear photos when you have an unsteady hand.Battery life isn't anything to write home aboutThe V20 has a 3,200mAh battery, which isn't as big as its rivals. In our tests, it clocked an average of 12 hours and 30 minutes of continuous video playback on Airplane mode. While that's a respectable enough time to outlast the iPhone 7 Plus, both the Pixel XL and OnePlus 3 lasted over 13 hours (the latter with a lower capacity battery than the V20). The Galaxy S7 Edge dominated all with its 19-hour run. Those who plan on taking advantage of the phone's swappable battery have no reason to sweat these stats. Whenever reserves get low, you can easily switch out for a fully charged battery . But if you're not going to purchase a spare battery, this runtime is something to keep in mind. The battery also employs Qualcomm's Quick Charge Technology 3.0. Plugged in for 30 minutes, you get about a 37 percent charge and an hour yields 75 percent. A full charge takes about 1 hour and 35 minutes, which is the expected time for a handset with Quick Charge. Enlarge Image Though its battery time is respectable, it didn't blow away the competition. Josh Miller/CNETI can't dunk it in waterA water-resistant phone would have been acceptable a few years ago. But because Sony, Samsung and now Apple all have flagships that can survive underwater submersion, the V20 loses out on this front. LG does tout that the V20's metal construction makes it tougher against scratches and casual drops. However, given that it's just as expensive, if not pricier than its competitors, it's disappointing that there's no water protection.LG V20 specs comparison LG V20Google Pixel XLSamsung Galaxy S7 EdgeOnePlus 3Apple iPhone 7 Plus Display size, resolution 5.7-inch; 2,560x1,440 pixels5.5-inch; 2,560x1,440 pixels5.5-inch; 2,560x1,440 pixels5.5-inch; 1,920x1,080 pixels5.5-inch; 1,920x1,080 pixelsPixel density 515 ppi534 ppi534 ppi401ppi401 ppiDimensions (Inches) 6.29x3.01x0.3 inches6.09x2.98x0.34 inches (at its thickest)5.9x2.9x0.3 inches6.01x2.94x0.29 inches6.23x 3.07x0.29 inchesDimensions (Millimeters) 159.7x78.1x7.7
2025-04-09Photo of me outside of a restaurant at night. Samsung's photo is the brightest of the three, but I prefer Google's photos since both the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel Fold made my face look a bit softer. Lisa Eadicicco/CNETWhat sets the Pixel Fold and other foldables like it apart from regular phones, however, is their ability to stand on their own when folded halfway. The Pixel Fold, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Motorola Razr Plus and other foldables essentially have a built-in tripod, making it easier to capture steady shots or group selfies. When using the camera app in Tabletop mode, the viewfinder shifts to the top portion of the display when camera controls are situated on the bottom. Samsung has been offering this feature for a while, so it's nothing new. The Z Fold 4 can even show photos right after they've been taken on the bottom portion of the screen alongside the camera controls. That makes it easier to see if the photo you just

2025-04-04Google surprised many when it launched a Pro XL variant as part of its Pixel 9 series of devices. The phone’s name is deceptive. It is not an “extra large” phone but actually a replacement of the previous year’s Pro, which used to be larger than the plain Pixel variant, but in the 9 series, is of the same size as its non-Pro bro. It retains its super-premium price tag, though, and is the most expensive non-folding Pixel out there. But is it worth the big bucks it is charging? We have been using the Pixel 9 Pro XL for more than a month, and here is our take.Table of ContentsGoogle Pixel 9 Pro XL looks and design: A larger Pixel 9 (complete with iPhone hints)Google Pixel 9 Pro XL specs: Pump up the RAM and those camerasGoogle Pixel 9 Pro XL performance: Lots of AI brains rather than gaming brawnGoogle Pixel 9 Pro XL camera: OF COURSE, it takes great picturesPixel 9 Pro XL battery life and charging: Better with Android 15, but charging remains slowGoogle Pixel 9 Pro XL Pricing: Big bucks for the big PixelGoogle Pixel 9 Pro XL Review Verdict: For AI and Camera-crazy Pixel fans View more View less Google Pixel 9 Pro XL looks and design: A larger Pixel 9 (complete with iPhone hints)In terms of design, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is cut from the same cloth as the smaller Pixel 9. This means that you get the straight sides and flat front and back that many claim reminds them of the iPhone, as well as the horizontal capsule-shaped camera unit that juts out. Unlike the Pixel 9, which comes in funky colors such as the pink Peony and the light green Wintergreen, the Pixel 9 Pro XL sticks to sober shades – a white Porcelain, a black Obsidian, a green-gray Hazel and a light pink Rose Quartz, which only slightly dips its toes in funky waters. We got the Obsidian shade, which cut a subtly smart and premium figure. The straight Armour Aluminium sides do give iPhone vibes, and the camera unit, and the Google logo beneath it ensure that the phone is not mistaken for an Apple from a tree in Cupertino. While the Pixel 9 Pro XL comes with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on front and back and IP68 dust and water resistance, it sports what Google calls a ‘soft
