The largest population is in Namibia but they can also be found in Botswana, South Africa, Angola, Mozambique and Zambia. One subspecies of cheetah can be found in Iran but the numbers are now incredibly low. They are Africa’s most endangered big cat and are identified as vulnerable to extinction because there are fewer than 7000 adult cheetahs living in the wild. Cheetahs usually live in dry grassland areas but some subspecies live in rocky upland or desert areas. They don’t roar like other big cats but they do purr, growl and make a sound closer to a bark.
