There are tons of characters in both the Marvel and DC Comics universes that have healing factors making them difficult to kill, but Peacemaker has something that takes his immortality to a whole new level. This could be found out in Suicide Squad #13. It was written by The Suicide Squad's former boss, Amanda Waller, journeyed to Earth-3, home of the evil Justice League known as the Crime Syndicate. She hoped to form an alliance with them. Rick Flagg and a new Suicide Squad team goes after her in order to stop her plans for multiversal domination. It's proving to be quite difficult as Waller has made friends with Ultraman, Johnny Quick, Superwoman, and other powerful members of the Crime Syndicate. In Suicide Squad #13 by Dennis Hopeless and Robbie Thompson with art by Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira and Dexter Soy, various members of the Suicide Squad take on different Crime Syndicate members. Peacemaker is pitted against the evil Green Lantern known as Power Ring. After being hit by a constructed baseball bat and thrown into a constructed bear trap, Peacemaker is close to death. Ambush Bug is watching the fight from a distance and breaks the fourth wall to point out to the reader that Peacemaker won't actually die here because he's a character with a popular live-action series right now. He also mentions how he will be needed for the third act of the story, so somebody is going to save him from Power Ring. At this point, Ambush Bug realizes that it's got to be him. This meta, fourth-wall-breaking commentary is important and hilarious for several reasons. Popular characters like Deadpool and Wolverine consistently stay alive in their respected universes because of a healing factor, but this out-of-universe explanation for a character staying alive is far more straightforward and honest. Ambush Bug has pointed out that editorial protection for a character is far more convenient than a healing factor. It doesn't matter if the decisions are coming from people in DC Comics or its parent company, if a big Hollywood movie or show can draw in millions of viewers and money then it makes sense that the characters featured in them will be protected in their comics. Of course, just like a healing factor, this metatextual plot armor can be taken away. Peacemaker isn't a perpetual A-lister like Batman or Superman, who will be protected from dying regardless of their current Hollywood status. Peacemaker's unkillability will only last however long John Cena continues to bring the character to life. But with the announcement of a season 2 coming to HBO Max, it seems.
