2025-04-13Why do I get results different from other tools? There are few reasons why you get different results using our tool and other tools like ookla speedtest.net, netflix fast.com: Our tool makes upload and download at the same time and continously. Other (non-continuous) tools first make download for about 10 seconds, then upload for another 10 seconds. There can be different speed test results for such different tests. For example, downloading of a file can start with higher speed, but the speed can drop after some time. Such degradations of internet quality are usually not detected by regular non-continuous speed tests. Our tool uses multiple various servers around the world, while other tools like ookla speedtest use "closest" servers. The internet providers (ISPs) may provide better connection to local servers rather than remote servers in other countries. The speedtest.net (ookla) provides a way for ISPs to set up such servers in their own network, in this way providing better results at speedtest.net. See what they offer to ISPs: Give your users the best Speedtest results by having a local server that shows how good your service truly is. Keep Speedtest traffic on your local network so your data throughput is as low and as clean as possible. In our opinion such tests are not accurate and may provide false positive results: speed to local server can be larger than speed to remote server in another country/continent. International IP traffic costs more than local IP traffic for an ISP. It's a common situation, especially in China. Netflix Fast.com internet speed test uses video streaming servers located in the US, so when you run the test from the US, you will only test national US IP network, and not worldwide international internet What should be limits for 400mb/s download and 25 Mb/s
2025-04-05You are using an out of date browser. It may not display this or other websites correctly. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. #1 My download speed is usually around 15-30MB/s while downloading updates for games like RB6 or CoD but is at 1-2MB/s at the moment. I did an Ookla and a google test. I got it 1.46 download and .20 upload for the google. Then on ookla I got 4.8 download and 0.13 upload.... what happened to my internet? Why is it all of a sudden terrible? I can’t even download small updates to play games with my friends let alone play online if I’m lucky. On my desktop(hardwired) I am getting these low numbers. But on my lab top(wireless)I am getting 325MB/a download and 11.23 upload off both ookla and google. What is wrong with my computer? Last edited by a moderator: Dec 9, 2020 S SamirD Dec 10, 2020 I used two different laptops, one right next to my router and got the 350mb/s then went on the furthest side of the house and got 40mb/s. when you say something on my computer do you believe it’s a virus? I don’t do much on the computer besides play games :/ Gotcha, so definitely not an isp issue. To confirm there is nothing wrong with your computer, boot a linux live cd/usb and check speeds there. It should be full speed there, and if it isn't can possibly point to a hardware issue. Nov 7, 2011 74,511 4,141 176,290 #2 malware scan?it is downloading windows update? 2025-03-26Browsers improves download speeds by freeing up network resources. Browsers often use bandwidth for background data synchronization or updates. For instance, Google Chrome continuously updates extensions and syncs data, which can slow down new downloads. A study by Okta (2020) found that active browser tabs can consume up to 20% of your total bandwidth.File Sharing Programs:File sharing applications like BitTorrent can severely impact download speeds. These programs often upload and download large files simultaneously, consuming a significant amount of your internet capacity. Limiting their usage while downloading other items can lead to faster completion times. Research from the International Journal of Computer Applications (2019) shows that file sharing can use up to 70% of available bandwidth.Streaming Applications:Streaming services, such as Netflix or Spotify, can consume substantial bandwidth. When using battery power, it’s wise to close these applications to enhance the performance of download speeds. The broadband speed tests by Ookla (2021) indicated that streaming online could reduce available bandwidth by 25-50%.Cloud Storage Services:Services like Dropbox or Google Drive can synchronize files in the background, consuming bandwidth. Closing these applications during downloads prevents them from competing for your internet connection. A survey by Gartner (2020) revealed that cloud applications could use as much as 10-20% of the available bandwidth depending on usage patterns.System Update Services:Operating system updates can run in the background and utilize significant bandwidth. Disabling automatic updates while downloading can help retain maximum speed. Microsoft reports that system updates may consume up to 30% of your internet bandwidth when running on their schedule.By closing these background applications, you can improve your device’s download speeds while on battery power. How Does Operating on Battery Power Impact Overall Download Performance? Operating on battery power can negatively impact overall download performance. When a laptop runs on battery, it often enters a power-saving
