It’s time to return to Pandora. Moviegoers who watched the original Avatar movie when it premiered in theaters back in 2009 will finally get to see the follow-up to the highest-grossing movie in history this winter. James Cameron’s epic sequel, Avatar 2, or more officially called Avatar: The Way of Water, arrives in theaters on Dec. 16, and it’s the second and highly anticipated chapter in a multi-movie franchise.More from Rolling Stone Buy 'Avatar: The Way of Water' Tickets at Fandango The new action blockbuster stars Sam Worthington, who returns as Jake Sully, and Zoe Saldaña, once again playing Na’vi Neytiri, as well as Sigourney Weaver (Dr. Grace Augustine) and Stephen Lang (Colonel Miles Quaritch). The Way of Water‘s cast also includes new additions, including Oscar winner Kate Winslet.“The Way of Water is like its predecessor: sincere to the point of being brash, wide-armed and open-hearted toward the world it loves and vengefully, comically violent toward the people who arrive to destroy that world,” K. Austin Collins wrote in the Rolling Stone movie review of Cameron’s sequel.“It’s a better movie than the first outing because Cameron lets things get weirder, wilder. He dwells on details that most streamlined modern blockbusters, even some of the most bloated among them, do not dare.”While Avatar fans will finally get to see The Way of Water in theaters, they might have to wait a little longer to explore the world of Pandora on streaming services. Here’s how you can get tickets to the movie in theaters, and where you might eventually be able to watch it online.Avatar 2: The Way of Water: Release Date, Rating, Runtime, PlotCameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water premiered in theaters nationwide Friday, Dec. 16, 2022. Moviegoers can find their local showtimes and buy tickets online now on sites like Fandango. The epic sequel is currently playing in IMAX, 3D, and on standard theater screens. Buy 'Avatar: The Way of Water' Tickets at Fandango If you’re trying to plan when to go get more popcorn, Avatar: The Way of Water‘s runtime clocks in at around three hours, 10 minutes long, and is rated PG-13.According to the film’s official synopsis, Avatar 2 picks up over a decade after the original, and “begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”How to Watch Avatar 2: Where to Stream The Way of Water OnlineFor now, the only way you can watch Avatar: The Way of Water is to buy a ticket at your local theater. So far, Avatar 2 isn’t streaming online just yet.The film’s streaming release hasn’t been announced, and it’s unclear at the time of this writing when Underwater sequences and a more traditional 24fps for simpler scenes. But it’s important to note that projectors cannot alternate between frame rates during a screening. So a high-frame-rate screening of “Avatar 2” will project the entire film in 48fps, and the scenes shot in 24fps will simply show each frame twice (though that is not something that would be noticeable to a viewer). Screenings in theaters not equipped to project in 48fps will simply show the entire film in a standard frame rate of 24fps, which means that many of the most visually impressive scenes will not be presented the way Cameron intended them.So for the most immersive experience, look for a showing that mentions a high frame rate (often abbreviated to HFR) or specifies that the theater uses single laser technology. Some theaters use older projectors featuring dual lasers, which offer slightly higher picture quality but do not allow 48fps projection. Single laser screenings will offer a very minuscule decline in picture quality, but most experts believe that the ability to watch action scenes at their intended frame rate is a trade-off worth making.“Avatar: The Way of Water”Courtesy of 20th Century StudiosIMAX vs. Other Premium FormatsBeyond that, the only other thing to consider is premium format options. IMAX theaters are still the biggest and loudest options, presenting the film on the largest possible screen with a premium sound system. The original “Avatar” was the highest-grossing IMAX film of all time even though there were only roughly 300 IMAX screens in the world at the time. That number has increased considerably in the subsequent 13 years, and “Avatar 2” will be the widest IMAX release of all time when it opens on over 1,500 IMAX screens worldwide. But that rapid expansion has been possible because not all IMAX screens are equal. Many multiplexes feature theaters labeled with the IMAX branding but are much smaller than original IMAX screens (even if they are larger than a standard screen). “Real” and “fake” IMAX screens are labeled the exact same way, so it takes a bit of research to figure out which one you’re seeing. Cinephiles who want to see the film on the largest possible screen should seek out an IMAX theater playing the film in a 1.43 aspect ratio rather than 1.9, such as the AMC Lincoln Square in New York City or the AMC Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles. After that, Dolby Cinema screens are the second highest quality option (though both IMAX and Dolby screenings will cost more due to the third-party maintenance that those theaters require). Many of those theaters are also equipped with single laser technology that will allow the film to be viewed at high frame rates. Many

Alternatively, feel free to Avatar: The Way of Water Sign in to your Collider account After years of speculation, rumors, delays, and hype, Avatar: The Way of Water is finally hitting theaters around the world this weekend. Although some skeptics still cling on to the idea that the first film somehow didn’t have any cultural staying power, the original Avatar added to its ridiculous box office gross when it was re-released in theaters earlier this year. The hype has only increased since the first teaser trailer was released earlier this year exclusively in theaters showing Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, and the film has already received serious awards recognition from critical bodies like the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute. While Avatar fans may have had to wait a long time to see what James Cameron had been cooking up for all these years, it’s hardly the last time that Cameron plans to visit Pandora. Avatar 3 has already completed a majority of its filming, with a release date set for December 20, 2024. Cameron has also used The Way of Water press cycle to tease that Avatar 4, set to be released in 2025, “goes nuts” and impressed executives who heard the pitch. Producer Jon Landau has taken the opportunity to even hint at the storyline for Avatar 5, which would reportedly explore Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) on an adventure to Earth. With Cameron even talking about plans for Avatar 6 and Avatar 7, fans are likely curious if The Way of Water has a post-credit sequence that teases additional installments. Does 'Avatar: The Way of Water' Have an End Credit Scene? Image via 20th Century Studios Avatar: The Way of Water does not have an end credit scene, but you should probably stick around to the very ending to see all the talented visual effects wizards that contributed to the groundbreaking technical achievements. That being said, considering that the film is 192 minutes long, you might want to take a break to head to the bathroom, especially if you gulped down a Coke Zero during your Pandora adventure. You won’t even bother Cameron if you get up during the film itself; he stated that viewers can go to the bathroom “anytime they want” because they “can see the scene they missed when they come see it again.” His confidence isn’t misplaced, as Avatar: The Way of Water is projected to make almost $650 million at the domestic box office. What is 'Avatar: The Way of Water' About? Image Via 20th Century Studios After the events of the first film, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri have raised a family on Pandora, but they’re forced to flee the forests after humans return to Pandora with a vengeance. In order to escape safely, the couple and their family flee to the underwater and reef regions of the planet. The film also features returning cast members Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. Sign in to your Game Rant account As Avatar: The Way Water continues its steady path towards a two billion dollar box office haul, few would second guess the film’s performance in China, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, James Cameron’s latest blockbuster will get an extended theatrical run that will keep it in the mainland until Chinese New Year. Despite Avatar being immensely popular among Chinese moviegoers, the film’s release coincided with one of the country’s worst pandemic waves of the last two years as new COVID variants have surfaced in China, thus triggering a national health crisis. After this past weekend, The Way of Water had only earned $190m China, a number that pales in comparison to the first movie’s $261.82 total, and one that will surely have Disney executives unhappy about its performance. Nevertheless, per The Hollywood Reporter, Chinese regulators have extended the Avatar sequel’s license so that The Way of Water can be screened for another 30 days on top of the one-month permit normally given to foreign movies. Since The Way of Water’s China premiere coincided with the rest of the world, before this extension, Avatar 2 would have been taken down from theaters on January 15, though now it will stay well past China’s New Year’s celebrations, which take place on January 22 this year. According to sources familiar with China’s movie scene, the decision is a rare one, especially because government authorities tend to keep Hollywood movies away from theaters whenever there’s a national day since that’s the date Chinese studios prefer to release their own blockbusters. This year, The Way of Water would face stiff competition from The Wandering Earth 2, a prequel to the 2019 Chinese blockbuster that earned $700m in revenue. Just like everywhere else, The Way of Water is expected to drop off significantly three to four weeks after being out, yet it seems like extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures many people in China might have not been able to attend local screenings. Reception for the Avatar sequel in the mainland has been overwhelmingly positive, even more so than in other countries, so it’s fair to say Disney has reasons to be optimistic about this decision. Overall, The Way of Water’s financials became a talking point mainly due to its massive production costs, which at some point were believed to have the power to jeopardize Cameron’s plan for three

Avatar 3 Sign in to your Collider account On the same day that Disney delivered the first look at a crucial character in Avatar: Fire and Ash, the leader of the Wind Traders, the studio followed it up by revealing another look at the other side of the war for Pandora. Empire Magazine has another look at concept art from the third chapter of James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, showing the signature boats and helicopters used by the RDA’s “Sky People” for travel and warfare. The report also features an interview with Avatar: Fire and Ash production designer Ben Procter, who spoke about what the third movie will bring to the table in terms of action. He mentions that we’re going to see a “battle for the ages” in the film, and a fight that will also make Avatar: The Way of Water’s final sequence look like “nothing but a skirmish.” The first Avatar movie sees Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) come to Pandora as a human who learns the ways of the Na’vi while acting as an avatar driver for his deceased brother before ultimately moving his consciousness from his human body to his avatar. Avatar: The Way of Water sees Jake as the new leader of his tribe, but forced on the run to protect those closest to him, to defend himself once again from Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and his band of jarheads. Plot specifics about Avatar: Fire and Ash are being kept under wraps at this time, but after Avatar 2 introduced the world to the Metkayina (water clan), Avatar 3 will take the audience to the home of the Ash people while surely providing the most grueling challenge Jake has ever faced. When Is ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Coming Out? Avatar: Fire and Ash has been set for release exclusively in theaters on December 19 later this year, but it won’t be the final chapter in the story of Jake Sully on Pandora. The fourth Avatar movie that is currently untitled and will also see the Pandoran debut of Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh, has been set for release on December 21, 2029, four years after Avatar 3. Avatar 5 has also been confirmed to release two years later on December 19, 2031, but this is subject to change as the Avatar movies are no strangers to delays. Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters on December 19. Check out. When Will Avatar 2 Be Available To Stream?.
