Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie and Colman Domingo are heading to a future of cartoonish robots in the upcoming Netflix film The Electric State. The teaser trailer below shows Esposito playing what appears to be an evil, or at least stern-looking, robot. Unlike the other robots we see in the trailer, which look like 1950s cartoons, Esposito’s robot features his face looking out through a television screen. Esposito’s bad-guy roles are often the most entertaining parts of the projects he’s in, and we expect no less from this character. What is The Electric State about?Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, The Electric State is based on the book by Simon Stålenhag which tells the story of a dystopian version of 1997. In this version of the late ’90s, robots are now a facet of life, and technology has run amok. Millie Bobby Brown stars as a girl who is on a journey with her robot companion to find her long-lost brother.According to Netflix’s synopsis:The Electric State is a spectacular adventure from the directors of Avengers: Endgame set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, Enola Holmes, Damsel) stars as Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is upended one night when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher, Michelle’s genius younger brother whom she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, and soon finds herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own, Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies, and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected.Who else stars in The Electric State?Along with Brown, Pratt, Mackie, Esposito and Domingo, The Electric State also stars Jason Alexander, Ke Huy Quan, Woody Norman, Stanley Tucci, and the voices of Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria and Alan Tudyk. When does The Electric State premiere? The Electric State comes to Netflix March 14, 2025.

Remember Big Head Mode in ‘90s-era shooters? Well, the “robot morphology” shooter Morphies Law turns that joke into one of its core mechanics.Sharpshooters should set their sights on our list of the best PC shooters. In Morphies Law, shooting an opponent causes you to steal some of their body mass. So, say if you’re a sniper who keeps landing headshots, your head will grow bigger and bigger for every headshot you land. You keep shooting people in the legs? Your legs will keep growing longer. Not only does this force players to change their tactics based on how well they’re doing, it gives those at the bottom of the leaderboard an advantage as their lack of body mass makes them a smaller target. These body changes also affect how you move around the map, with longer legs letting you jump higher, while a larger bum gives you additional use of your butt rocket. That’s right – instead of a jetpack, Morphies Law has players boosting around the map via a thruster in their badonkadonk.Rather than competing to get the most kills, the outcome of your average Morphies Law match is decided by the size of your team’s giant robot avatar compared to your opponent’s. It grows based on the combined body mass of your team, meaning you can implement specific tactics to make your robot grow larger. You could all aim your opponent’s extremities, turning your avatar into a lanky automaton. Friendly fire also works differently, allowing opponents to distribute body mass among themselves to enact a specific strategy. While it looks janky at first, Morphies Law is offering a fresh take on the team-based shooter. Plus, I can imagine high-level matches will look hilarious – seeing these bobbleheads robots with giant legs bunny hopping around the map. Morphies Law is launching on the Nintendo Switch this winter, with it coming to the PC a short while after.. Weren't flying off the shelves anymore, did the sensible thing and made those trucks into robots. Gobots were what you got for your birthday from well-meaning family members who knew you wanted "One of those transforming robot toys." Ironically, Hasbro bought the line out in 1991 and worked the Gobots lore into an alternate Transformers timeline. 22 So Many Bad He-Man Figures via midnight-rant.blogspot.com We've already done a whole article about bad He-Man toys. There are so many! Like Ram Man, who, to his credit, is pretty clear about what he's into. You can't even move his arms and legs so as not to mess up his aerodynamics. There are also classics like Sssqueeze, who leaves no doubt in your mind that he is a Snakeman, and Snout Spout who looks like someone tried to cosplay as Flame Mammoth from Mega Man X and gave up after the head. 21 OG Transformers via Toys are Russ on YouTube The merchandising juggernaut of the 80s and 90s needs no introduction, having been a part of pop culture since its creation 30+ years ago. While originally marketed as The Transformers across toys, cartoons, and comic books, fans started calling the original "roll out" (sorry) of Transformers by the now-familiar "Generation 1" moniker once the franchise started to get more and more complicated, leading Hasbro to adopt the term officially. The original idea came from, of course, Japan, where giant robots or "mecha" had been a staple of entertainment for decades. Hasbro bought a number of different mecha toy lines and resold them all in the West under the Transformers label. 20 Indentured Animal Babies via MidThePinesVintage on Etsy Another toy phenomenon that is inexplicable today: Cabbage Patch Kids straddled the line between dolls and toys and it seemed like every kid you

Entirely boring. Hop, step, hope, step... how many times can someone do that on their own before they go nutty? Either way, this thing also resulted in several ankle injuries... we think for pretty obvious reasons. 6 Snack Time Cabbage Patch This was always a very strange toy. It definitely wouldn't make it out on the shelves today with the safety standards out now, but there is certainly something about this toy that isn't right. It might be the fact that people could actually feed it real food... or maybe it's that it sent a kid to the hospital because it actually ate real hair... 5 Sock'em Boppers These toys had to be renamed to Socker Boppers, simply because of how close the name was to Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. Either way, this toy was a little more dangerous than the robots. Essentially it was an inflated punching bag which encouraged kids to beat the crap out of each other (without pain, allegedly)... which led to a ton of injuries. 4 Tickle Me Elmo We are pretty sure that this one needs no explanation, especially since Ernie and Bert are no longer allowed to sleep in the same bed anymore. This toy is definitely not PC enough for this day and age. Also... Tickle Me Elmo taught plenty of kids a few wrong things about how people should touch people. 3 Virtual Boy At the outset, this was actually a pretty sweet idea, we have to admit, but Nintendo definitely messed it up. This was basically around the time that PS1 and Dreamcast were showing up and the N64 hadn't made it yet. Well, all they did was take old Game Boy games and give them a red and black filter... too bad. 2 Water Snake The 'Water Snake' was a very weird toy from the '90s, for sure. And there is very little chance that it would make an appearance today, other than through people who really want what was mistaken often as a toy with... other uses. David HasselhoffWhile there was plenty of spreadable cheese in 80s/90s action TV (Airwolf, The A-Team, Riptide), this slot is going to David Hasselhoff for his portrayal of lone crusader Michael Knight on Knight Rider and at-the-ready rescuer Mitch Buchannon on the criminally popular Baywatch. Some might argue that the character of K.I.T.T. the car could share this accolade with The Hoff, but let's not forget that there'd be no "shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist" without the man who didn't exist. Action heroes come in many forms. Some can kill you in a blink with the tips of their fingers. Others come with a more notable gimmick. A horse. A classic ride. A sidekick. With a 10 out of 10 on Steam, it is clear that Stray has made many fans. Created by the indie French game company, BlueTwelve Studio, the story explores a cyberpunk world through the eyes of an orange tabby cat. The game is loved not just for its cute feline protagonist, but for its gorgeous world, interesting robots, and sobering apocalyptic lore. In fact, one of the greatest parts of the game was its location. The Walled City that players can explore is full of life in its skyscrapers, neon signs, tiny apartments, and alleyways. It makes the perfect playground for a cat. However, there is more to the city than meets the eye. It was actually inspired by a place that existed in real life. This place was the Kowloon Walled City in China, a place that was demolished in the 90s due to the quality of life and sanitary conditions being so poor. How Kowloon Inspired Stray According to an Inverse interview with Producer Swann Martin-Raget, the Kowloon Walled City was the source of fascination that inspired early development. Kowloon was known for its incredibly high density of people. In fact, Kowloon was the most densely populated place on Earth in its time. Its alleyways were thin, only reaching three to six feet wide with poor drainage and little room for light. Since the apartments in the city were so small, much of people's lives moved to the rooftops and caged balconies with clotheslines, trash, and TVs. Most of the buildings were 10 to 14 stories high. Kowloon made the perfect blueprint for Stray, as the developers realized the architecture made itself into a fantastic cat playground. Cats can slip through alleyways, jump from balcony to balcony, and have tons of trash to play with. Looking at picture of Kowloon and then of Stray, the cities practically mirror each other. However, the backstory of Kowloon is quite different from the postapocalyptic Walled City of Stray. The Story Of Kowloon Originally, Kowloon was a Chinese military fort, but it became an urban settlement in the 1940s in the aftermath of World War 2. The city went through massive construction, reaching its maximum size in the late 70s. By the 90s, Kowloon had between 30 and 50 thousand residents squeezed into just 6.4 acres of land. For much of its existence, the city became infamously known for its crime and. Came in 1993 and was simply titled “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure”.The plot features an average Japanese high-schooler Kujo Jotaro, who soon stops behaving like a normal kid and assumes that he is possessed by a spirit. He even imprisons himself soon afterwards. By way of his grandfather Joseph Joestar, Kujo encounters Joe's friend Muhammad Abdul. A tiff later ensues between Muhammad and Kujo, resulting in the boy learning more about the spirit inside him.He discovers that it is nothing but his ‘Stand’, a fighting force given form, though a semi-solid one. He also learns that his ‘spirit’ is called Star Platinum. Things turn dark when Kujo’s mother takes ill upon discovering her own ‘Stand’. The story then harkens back to the days of Kujo’s great-great-grandfather Jonathan Joestar. He once defeated a vampire called Dio Brando who, a century later, seems to have returned. The vamp was revived, which means the creature had help. So, along with Muhammad, Kujo and his grandad Joseph return to Egypt (notable connections to the original manga here) to end the threat Dio poses once and for all.Black Jack (movie + series)DramaMysteryThrillerSource:MangaFormat:MOVIESeason:1996 (Fall)Status:FinishedAdult:NoEpisodes:1The movie was inspired by the manga released in 1993. A television series followed in the 2k era. The main character Kuroo Hazama is the titular ‘Black Jack’ in the show. Despite not having a license, his reputation in the medical field is nothing short of legendary. Along with his assistant, Pinoko, Kuroo performs treatments and surgeries that are considered ‘miraculous’.His bill, however, is not of the affordable kind. His fees are so exorbitant that people soon start associating Kuroo with greed and cruelty. But this genius practitioner remains highly sought after, owing in large part to the lengths he pursues to save his patients. This anime is dark in several regards. It tracks the culture and activities of ‘underground medicine’ at a time when such topics were not vocally embraced, i.e., the 90s. Extremely strange diseases and ailments serve as challenges for the equally mysterious Black Jack.
